2011 NBA Mock Draft: The Latest Speculation on Who Each Team Will Select
Streeter Lecka/Getty Images
We know that Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams are set to go at the top of the draft, but as to what teams will be taking them, that is still up in the air.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are not going to trade the No. 1 pick, and all signs point to Kyrie Irving as being the first piece to help replace LeBron James, but they need more than just a point guard to fill the void left by the game's biggest name.
The second piece will likely come at No. 4 and Cleveland could take any number of players, but not Derrick Williams.
The Arizona Wildcat forward is widely considered the second-best player in this draft but the Minnesota Timberwolves have been a lightning rod for trade rumors during the draft process and could allow any team into the No. 2 pick for the right offer.
There are rumors circling a large group of veterans and we could see trades come fast and furious in this draft with big names landing at new teams before the draft is complete.
The Washington Wizards have three picks in the top 34; the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons could all be on the move; and the Portland Trail Blazers have been active in trying to move up for a point guard.
We're going to go over all this and more as we look at the latest speculation in the NBA Draft.

NBA Draft Order 2011 Will Be In A Constant State of Flux During Tonight's Draft Proceedings
The 2011 NBA Draft takes place tonight, and there are a lot of rumors about what we can expect to see. Here's what we know for sure: The Cleveland Cavaliers have the No. 1 pick and they aren't going to trade it. Beyond that we really don't know anything.
The Minnesota Timberwolves want to get out of the No. 2 spot, but no one is making an offer good enough to push them down the ladder.
With all this uncertainty surrounding the draft, I am going to make three bold predictions that I expect to see this evening.
1) Jimmer Fredette will be a top 10 pick
I wouldn't take Jimmer in the top 10 if I were running a team, because he doesn't have a position and he doesn't play defense. With that said, he was the biggest star in college basketball last season, and fans will come to see him for at least a short period of time.
I think a team will trade up to get him, but he will go in the top 10.
2) Kemba Walker will fall out of the lottery
Walker had a great run in March, but he is undersized and doesn't have a defined position. Those sound like the same criticisms of Jimmer, because they are, but the shine really seems to be off him heading into the draft.
If Sacramento passes on him at 7, he is going to fall to Indiana at 15 or New York at 17.
3) Derrick Williams will NOT be the No. 2 pick
There is chatter, according to ESPN's Chad Ford, that Minnesota is looking hard at Enes Kanter. In Ford's most recent mock he still has Williams going No. 2, but I think that the Wolves have fallen in love with the potential of Kanter at the center position, and will make him the second overall pick.
There will probably be many shockers and stunners during tonight's draft, but these are the three biggest surprises that I am expecting from tonight's festivities.

Chicago Bulls Select Tyler Honeycutt with Last Pick in 1st Round
The Bulls don’t need any more firepower on their roster. They are a player away from winning an NBA championship right now. They have the reigning MVP in Derrick Rose and need one more role player to send it over the top.
Tyler Honeycutt makes everyone on the floor better. He’s efficient on both ends of the floor and would be able to put his ego aside and be a contributor, rather than a marquee guy.
Chicago is host to the Derrick Rose show. They build depth here and get a quality guy to help the cause. Chicago could very well find themselves in the finals next year.
Honeycutt is versatile and incredibly basketball smart. His addition may give them the edge on the Heat. Team continuity was proven to overrule star power in the NBA Finals this year. The Bulls are hoping that holds true next season.

Davis Bertans Selected No. 29 Overall in 2011 NBA Mock Draft
Here come the Spurs with yet again another great international pick that we won’t see for a few years.
I don’t know how they do it, but kudos to San Antonio’s international scouting crew. They always seem to be able to find players off the grid that turn into valuable contributors at the NBA level.
Davis Bertans is going to be another great pick for the Spurs.
He big and he is only 18 years old, which will allow the Spurs to let him develop a little bit more in Europe before they bring him over.
Everything I hear about him is that he has a sharpshooter’s touch, so I expect to see him sooner than later.

Josh Selby To Chicago Bulls In 2011 NBA Mock Draft
C.J. Watson was a key signing last summer for Chicago, but he only received 8.5 minutes a game during the postseason. During those 8.5 minutes, he wasn’t anything special either.
Late in the first round, Chicago can afford to roll the dice on backup point guard. At No. 28, Josh Selby is a steal.
He’s raw, but his potential is through the roof. Selby is a phenomenal athlete and plays above the rim. He only averaged 7.9 points a game in his one and only year at Kansas, but after putting up some big games early, he fell out of favor with the coaching staff.
Derrick Rose is currently the only perimeter player on the Bulls that can consistently penetrate into the lane. When he leaves the court, Chicago’s offense goes cold. Selby can be that penetrator.

2011 NBA Mock Draft Says New Jersey Nets Add Big Shooter in Justin Harper
The New Jersey Nets made a big move for Deron Williams this winter after he forced his way out of Denver, but there is a chance the Nets get burned in the end.
New Jersey needs to surround the star point guard with more than one big name if they want him to stay past next summer, but picking at No. 27 in the draft isn’t going to completely help that.
So the Nets have two options: go big or get another point guard.
There is some talent at the point guard position, especially for a backup player/future starter-type guy, but they also have a good look at a perfect stretch 4.
Justin Harper is 6’9”, but plays soft. Even so, he’s a fantastic shooter with great touch and range on his jumper and knows how to play in the open court. He’s not a great rebounder for his size, but his game compliments well with Nets’ big man Brook Lopez who does all of that well already.

Dallas Mavericks Look for Help in 2011 NBA Draft from Nikola Mirotic
The Dallas Mavericks proved that they were the best team in the NBA this season, but the fact that the entire team is getting old fast is very alarming.
With the 2011 NBA Draft at hand, one way for the Mavericks to start to build for the future will be by drafting Serbian small forward Nikola Mirotic.
Mirotic would stay in Europe for another year or two, so there is some substantial risk for Dallas, but it’s his potential to be a serious shooter that intrigues the Mavericks.
If Dallas wants an instant fix, they will look elsewhere with the No. 26 pick, but if they’re serious about taking the most value at this pick, Mirotic has to be their guy.

Boston Celtics Bring in JaJuan Johnson at No. 25
The Big 3’s reign of terror over the East appears to be coming to a close. It’s time to start thinking of the team they want to build around Rajon Rondo, before the championship contender regresses into a lottery team.
JaJuan Johnson is a rangy power forward. He’s not Kevin Garnett by any means, but Garnett would serve as a fantastic mentor.
His length and ability to get up and down the court would give the Celtics a new dimension in their frontcourt. Their current roster features a number of big men who are either too slow or too old to really make the hustle plays down low.
Johnson may slip all the way into the second round if the Celtics elect to pass on him. If they assume the risk, he’s would provide a much needed jolt of youth into their frontcourt.

Kyle Singler Selected No. 24 Overall in 2011 NBA Mock Draft
Even though I may not agree with the thinking behind this pick I have to go ahead and say that the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to go with Kyle Singler out of Duke.
Some don’t consider him to be a first round prospect but rather an early second round guy, but everything coming out of Oklahoma’s camp is suggesting that the Thunder are very high on Singler right now and will take him at 24.
Singler will be one of those “utility men” for the Thunder. He can do a little bit of everything; rebound, pass and play solid defense.
He won’t be incredible at anything, but he will be a solid player.

Tobias Harris To Houston Rockets In 2011 NBA Mock Draft
The Houston Rockets could do better than Terrence Williams and Chase Budinger. Williams only averaged 5 pts a game last season while Chase put up 9.8. Each player is a great athlete, but neither is as skilled overall as Tobias Harris.
Harris is a great all-around skill set and has the potential to turn into a point-forward type of player for the Rockets. His one and only season at Tennessee, Harris averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.
He may not be able to make an impact right away because he lacks the athleticism of Williams and Budinger and needs to get stronger, but he definitely has the frame to do so at 6’8” with a 6’11” wingspan. Harris has a great motor that should be able to make up for his athletic ability.

2011 NBA Mock Draft Says Denver Nuggets Select Kenneth Faried at No. 22
The Denver Nuggets were one of the hottest teams in the league after they traded away Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups.
The young, talented but inexperienced group from New York made a big difference and holdovers like Ty Lawson erupted to give basketball new meaning in Denver. They stand to lose a few talented players in free agency, but they should be able to find a replacement for at least one of them in the draft.
That replacement is rebound machine Kenneth Faried. The Morehead State Eagle is a dominant force on the glass but measured smaller than teams were anticipating (6’6”) and should fall down the board because of it.
He’s a complete hustle player and will make his living on second chance points, something the Nuggets will be able to use in spades. He can get up and down the court, will always work and fits in immediately with the Nuggets.

Portland Trail Blazers Steal Markieff Morris at No. 21 in the 2011 NBA Draft
The Portland Trail Blazers have a vast array of talented players on their team, and they seem to be just a piece or two away from a deep playoff run.
With LaMarcus Aldridge being the young phenom he is, if the Trail Blazers take Kansas forward/center Markieff Morris, they could have the best defensive low-post duos in the NBA.
Morris may be the less talked about brother (twin Marcus Morris will go higher in the first round), it could be Markieff that has the brighter career in the NBA because of his defensive prowess.
Portland was already one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, and with the addition of Morris, teams will dread heading into Oregon to play the Trail Blazers.

Timberwolves Select Donatas Motiejunas No. 20
Donatas Motiejunas is a huge seven foot power forward. He’s exactly what the Timberwolves need. Odds are, the Timberwolves are going to come with some off the wall, high risk pick that doesn’t work out.
If they elect to come away from this draft better than they entered it, for a change, Motiejunas gives them some much needed length in their front court.
This pick is largely predicated off of their No. 2 pick. Trade rumors are swirling, but they may end up taking Derrick Williams. If they were able to lure Andrew Bynum or another big man of his caliber and bring in Motiejunas, they would have a decent frontcourt all of a sudden.
With Ricky Rubio finally making his way to Minnesota and the team in a position to make some progression, the Timberwolves’ season ticket holders have to be excited about what lies ahead.

Marshon Brooks Selected No. 19 Overall in 2011 NBA Mock Draft
Marshon Brooks is going to be a very nice addition to the Bobcats offense.
He is what people like to call “instant offense” in the sense that he is not really afraid to get his and he has a good shot.
He is considered by many to be one of the best scorers in the draft. He can shoot from range or penetrate to the basket. He is also a pretty decent passer and knows how to set up his teammates.
The Bobcats are looking very good right now getting their defensive stopper in Biyombo and now an offensive specialist in Brooks.

Iman Shumpert To Washington Wizards In 2011 NBA Mock Draft
Why would Washington draft a point guard when they have John Wall? Their current backup is Mustafa Shakur, no relation to Tupac or the Lion King, that’s why.
The Wizards second biggest need next to a small forward is a backup point guard. Iman Shumpert could hold down the fort while Wall takes a breather.
NBA role players have to have a special niche to be successful. Shumpert has the niche: defense.
He’s a phenomenal perimeter defender. At 6’6” with a 6’10” wingspan, Shumpert length is going to cause problems for opposing point guards. He’s also a good athlete.
Shumpert’s biggest problem is his shot and point guard abilities. If he works on his jumper and lands in a good situation, he could turn out to be a very solid role player off the bench for a contender.

2011 NBA Mock Draft Says New York Knicks Rescue Chris Singleton at No. 17
The New York Knicks have two major needs: center and backup/future point guard.
Both positions will have players available but almost all of them will be reaches at this stage in the draft.
Chris Singleton, a long 3-man from Florida State, is neither of those positions but does one thing the Knicks can’t do; he plays defense.
Singleton has great size and athleticism, can guard big or small in the NBA and is, every sense of the phrase, a lockdown defender.
If he can develop a legitimate offensive game he’ll be a very good player, and a huge contributor in New York, for a very long time.
The Knicks want to trade up from this spot to land Jimmer Fredette or possibly even Bismack “The Business” Biyombo, a.k.a “B-Smack”. If they sit tight though, and Singleton falls, he’ll be too good of a value to pass up.
