2011 US Open Golf: Rory McIlroy Crushes Field, Can He Win a 2nd Major in 2011?
Rory McIlroy has a Decent Shot at Bringing Home Major Number Two in 2011
Rory McIlroy crushed his competition in the 2011 US Open. He's been competitive in four straight majors, most notably his epic collapse at Augusta.
With so much promise, is he poised to earn another one before 2011 is over? It's hard to imagine any player could possibly be favored over McIlroy heading into the Open, the year's third major.
Hopefully we get to see a healthy Tiger in that event. McIlroy fighting Tiger Woods for the vacant throne of golf would be an excellent battle to watch.
He has a complete game, and now he has proven he can finish. Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, and golf's elite are part of a wide open field. Even so, McIlroy has shown he can consistently get involved in the mix, by performing well in a number of majors.
Even more impressive is his improvement from major to major. It's highly unlikely he will build on this performance, but even playing close to this level could land him another major.
He's already taken one major in a landslide this year. Another major in 2011 isn't out of the question.
