The NBA draft is a mere eight days away.  It’ll be broadcast live on ESPN next Thursday at 7:00PM and there will be no shortage of news and rumors leading up to the big day.

The gap between Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams is as close as it has been since both players declared for the draft, and while Irving still looks to be the man in Cleveland, Williams isn’t going down without a fight.

The rest of the draft is starting to fall into place, but there’s still no assurance as to who will be selected third, fourth or fifth, etc.  With so much uncertainty, this is slowly becoming one of the more intriguing drafts in recent history, despite a perceived lack of All-Star talent.

Another point of interest to consider is that if a lockout occurs, it wouldn’t affect the draft at all.  Unlike the NFL, whose lockout occurred before their draft, the NBA's would be on July 1st, a week after the draft, so teams could be extra active on draft night.

Some teams will be looking to trim payroll while others could potentially look to add on salary, believing a new CBA would work in their favor towards grandfathering them into a new deal.  Whichever side your team is on, chances are they’ll be in play to make some noise.

There are still some major workouts to be conducted, so expect a slew of new rumors in the coming days.  For now, here are the stories making headlines around the globe.
