Reggie Jackson Sliding to the Second Round Swirling Around NBA Draft Rumors

Throughout the mock season, I’ve repeatedly called Boston College’s Reggie Jackson one of the most underrated point guards in the draft. He is one of the most talented, physical and explosive players pound-for-pound in the entire class.

He reminds me of Russell Westbrook with his build, ability to penetrate, shoot from behind the arc, handle the rock and distribute. He can single-handedly take over a game and would be one of the top lightning bugs in the league in his rookie season.

I could see him going to Houston or Chicago, but now we have to question if this first round talent will actually slide to the second round of the draft—where he would be a perfect fit for Miami atop the round.

Discouraging news now surrounds the guard with the freakish 7’0 wingspan and solid defensive skills.

“Reggie Jackson canceled all of his workouts. Bulls, Pacers, Bobcats and Blazers all had him scheduled to come in,” according to ESPN’s Chad Ford on Twitter.

Some believe he canceled his workouts because he was promised to be selected No. 24 overall by Oklahoma City, according to HoopsHype.com.

Others are not as optimistic and believe he is not meeting with teams because he is still not fully recovered from his minor knee surgery in May.

“Jackson has a legit injury. He had a minor procedure on his knee on May 17th (the day after school ended), a source close to Jackson tells me. Jackson is currently rehabbing and should be ready for workouts on the second week of June. Once he's cleared to workout, he'll have a pretty full schedule. A number of teams, starting with the Pacers at No. 15, the Knicks at No. 17 and the Bobcats at No. 19 are fans of Jackson. And it's hard to see him slipping past the Miami Heat at No. 31,’” said ESPN’s Chad Ford on May 31.

It is encouraging that these teams wanted to work out the Boston College prospect and others thought highly of him. It is not encouraging that he will not even meet with them for interviews.

At this point, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him fall to the second round, but he doesn’t deserve it. He is a clear-cut first round talent in this year’s draft. He would be ready for the start of the season, which is what matters most in the grand scheme of building a Championship squad.

With his offensive and defensive skills, freakish wingspan and build, he would be an asset to each team in the Association.
