NBA Rumors: Will Jason Richardson Bull Rush His Way to Chicago?

We all know Chicago desperately needs to bring somebody in to take pressure off MVP Derrick Rose on the offensive side of the court. This team is loaded up front, but must land another shooting guard to rotate with incumbent starter Keith Bogans. Bogans may be a solid player, but he is not the offensive threat Chicago needs beside Rose in the backcourt.
Luckily, this free agent class has options for the Bulls. Last month, I suggested Denver’s J.R. Smith, but there is a less volatile and more experienced options on the open market—Jason Richardson.
Richardson is a quality shooting guard. He can create his own shot, drive to the bucket and drain treys with ease.
He averages 18.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals for his career. Chicago needs a playmaker and shooter of his caliber. He shoots over 44 percent from the field and 37 percent from downtown during his career. Last year in 55 games with Orlando, he shot over 38 percent from behind the arc, which Chicago desperately needed in the postseason.
The Windy City may have been able to watch their Bulls in the NBA Finals if Richardson was on the squad. As D-Rose penetrates the defense, he will be able to kick it back to J-Rich who can spot up behind the arc and rain treys down on the opposition.
He may be 30-years-old, but he still has the athleticism to excite the crowd on the fast break just as Rose does. Smith may be more athletic and younger, but this team would benefit from his experience. J-Rich has seen his value drop recently, which means he Chicago may be able to grab him at a bit of a discount.
The Bulls clearly have a Championship squad. They just need to fill the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle, which is the athletic, playmaking shooting guard who can stretch the half court. They failed to land that player in the draft, which is why it is imperative the front office lands an affordable player such as Jason Richardson.
