The NBA Finals aren’t even 48 hours in the past, but the first big event of the offseason is almost here. In just over a week, the NBA draft will tip off the summer’s personnel moves (and while fears of a lockout will color much of the offseason, it can’t start until a full week after the draft).
The questions about this draft start right at the top. Will Cleveland (as has been widely predicted) go through with taking Duke PG Kyrie Irving at No. 1 overall, or have they changed their minds about the unproven standout?
If Irving doesn’t top Cleveland’s board, who does? One distinct possibility is another player with more potential than production, Turkish center Enes Kanter.
Kanter is a 19-year-old who’s a superstar in the making…if his sometimes-balky knees don’t short-circuit his career. In a draft where nothing is certain, the Cavaliers have no choice but to gamble, but who will they choose to roll the dice on?
