WWE Capitol Punishment is this Sunday night.
While recent WWE PPVs have been abnormally predictable, I think there could be a change of pace coming this time around and we might see more shockers than usual.
Just to give you a little teaser, I'm predicting that at least two champions will lose this Sunday.
So here you go, my five bold predictions for the matches that have already been announced.
...But loses the match.
I know, I know. I promised bold predictions and everyone is predicting that Alberto Del Rio will win this match. But here is the big difference between me and everyone else. Everyone else is predicting a legit win, most people saying a clean win, in an attempt for the WWE to put him over so he can challenge for the title in a month or two. But I don't think that's what will happen.
So bold prediction No. 1: Big Show gets disqualified, leaving Alberto Del Rio broken in the ring and leading to a good feud.
Mark my words, this feud will not be one-and-done. Del Rio's ring announcer hit Big Show with a car. Do you really think Big Show will let that go with one match? Not gonna happen. If the WWE wants to do this right, they will make this a good, long feud.
And while Big Show will beat him down at Capitol Punishment, Del Rio will end up beating the Big Show down the road (hopefully at a big PPV like Summer Slam), which will lead to a title shot shortly thereafter. And probably a four to six month title run.
But for now, Big Show will let his anger get the best of him and he will get himself disqualified. How? There are many ways for this to happen, but I think he connects with the knockout punch, goes outside the ring to grab a chair, and just goes to town on Del Rio (and anyone else who gets in his way).
First champion loss of the night!
Not many people are picking Big Zeke to win this match. Why? Wade Barrett is being groomed as a future WWE Champion and there doesn't seem to be any room for him in the title picture right now. Why take the IC Title off him when he's still months away from a WWE Title shot?
In addition to that, Ezekiel Jackson isn't really champion material. He's not very good on the mic, his in-ring skills are sub-par (and that's being generous), and he's not exactly the next person in line that deserves any sort of title.
That having been said, we all know Vince loves big guys, and there's no denying that Big Zeke is a big guy. He fits the bill of Vince's perfect wrestler. Big, powerful and intimidating. Why else do Chris Masters and Mark Henry still have jobs?
Also, Vince isn't exactly someone who gives titles to people who deserve them. How long did it take him to give a title to Chris Benoit or Eddie Guerrero (RIP to both of them). And while he did finally give Christian a title, how long did he hold it? Two days. Five if you include tape delays.
So there you have it. This guy is the typical mold that Vince loves, so it's only a matter of time before he gets a title. I just think it will be sooner, rather than later.
I really don't know what to make of this match. Are they pushing Alex Riley? Yes. Do all signs point to him winning? Yes. He's beaten down the Miz at every opportunity for the past couple weeks.
But the real question is this: Are they going to have him beat a former WWE Champion and one of the top heels on Raw in his first real PPV match? I'm not so sure about that one.
But hey, I called this bold predictions! Alex Riley will beat the Miz...clean. He's gotten the best of the Miz at every opportunity so far, he's pretty good on the mic and he's a future WWE star. Also, the Miz is really good at complaining. A-Ri wins this match, the Miz complains, the feud continues and they end it at Money in the Bank where the Miz wins and then moves on to fight for the WWE Title. You heard it here first.
But wait a second. If the Miz and Alberto Del Rio are both in long-term feuds (or at least busy for the next month or two), who will be fighting for the WWE Title at Money in the Bank?...
...But retains the title.
Why? Because they need to continue this feud for one more month with the Miz and Alberto Del Rio in long-term feuds, but we all know R-Truth isn't going to take the title from Cena.
Once again, I know. I called this "bold predictions," but I'm just another idiot predicting Cena keeps the title. But come on, does anyone out there honestly believe that R-Truth is gonna walk out of Capitol Punishment with the title? I didn't think so.
That having been said, this will give R-Truth something new to complain about. He'll whine and cry about how he beat Cena, but didn't get the title, which will lead to the Anonymous Raw GM giving him another title shot at Money in the Bank (probably in a ladder match or some other form of no DQ, no count-out match).
This also allows the feud to continue for another month while the Miz finishes his feud with A-Ri and Del Rio continues his feud with the Big Show, but it also avoids taking the title off Cena and giving it to R-Truth.
Okay, maybe I'm just saying this because I love Christian, and I always have since he and Edge were dominating the tag team division. But come on. Christian only held the title for two days, and this is probably his last chance for a long time. No one deserves a real title run more than Christian, and I think he surprises everyone and walks out with the title.
What's standing in his way?
1) Randy Orton. Everyone knows he can do pretty much whatever he wants because Vince is in love with him, and he's only held the title for a month or two, so he's not likely to be happy about giving up the title.
2) Vince McMahon. In addition to him being in love with Randy Orton, he also hates everyone who has ever wrestled for TNA. It was a miracle that Christian got the title in the first place.
But hey, Christian isn't one to let anything get in his way. And by giving him a heel turn, they make it possible for him to beat Orton in a way that makes Orton still look like a god. There is no way that Christian was going to beat Orton clean, so the heel turn allows him to win the title and cheat a little to do it.
Also, SmackDown doesn't exactly have a lot of heels who are "champion material." Unless you count Sheamus or Mark Henry, but Mark Henry will never win the WWE Title and Sheamus is a joke (former champion, yes, but what's he done since that?). So with a lack of championship-material heels, they need Christian to stay in the title picture, and at this point the only way that can happen is if he wins the title.
So there you have it. Let me know what you think.
And by the way, that picture's not for the Miz...it's for me ;-P
