LSU Falls to Georgia and Out of BCS Championship Race

Bleacher ReportAnalyst IOctober 25, 2008

Mike The Tiger shed great tiger tears as he realized that LSU will probably not head to the BCS national championship game this year; all he and his fellow LSU fans can do now is cheer for an SEC team to win the championship, which will make an SEC team a national champion three years in a row, with Florida beating Ohio State in 2006 and LSU beating Ohio State last season.

Saturday at Tiger Stadium, the Georgia Bulldogs gave the Tigers a two-loss record with a 52-38 victory. Last year, the Tigers won the championship after finishing at 11-2 on the season, but due to the competitiveness in the SEC this year, it is not likely that another 11-2 team would go to the big game, even if the Tigers won the rest of their games this year. With Alabama coming up in two weeks, finishing without another loss isn't certain, either.

On the first play of the game Saturday, Jarrett Lee gave the 'Dawgs a six-point present, throwing an interception to a Georgia player that was returned for a 40-yard touchdown.

After a score on the first play of the second quarter, LSU was down, 21-7, but by halftime it was 24-17 with Georgia in the lead.
