UFC 90 Predictions: Pain, Glory, and Upset?

Nick ColonSenior Analyst IOctober 25, 2008

Did the headline get you? Well if not, let me assure you, the upset I speak of is not at Anderson Silva's expense.

There is one packed card on the schedule tonight, as fight fans will be exploding with joy and anguish at the same time around 10 PM ET.

From Silva vs. Cote, all the way down to Maynard vs. Clementi, this card has good fights everywhere you turn. So, I will make some quick predictions on tonight's card and quickly state why.

Clementi vs. Maynard

Prediction: Maynard, Second Rd. KO via Ground and Pound

Maynard has the skills at 155, but now he has to show it. Clementi is a great start to do that. If he gets him down, expect it to be over quick. Otherwise, Clementi has the hands to end the fight.

Tyson Griffin vs. Sean Sherk

Prediction: Griffin via decision

I don't see this fight being overly dominated by one or the other. Griffin's pace is crazy, though so is Sherk's, so expect a bang at the beginning, only for it to eventually die over. Griffin or Sherk can win this, but it should be good.

Junior Dos Santos vs. Fabricio Werdum

Prediction: Dos Santos via Second Rd. TKO

Expect the unexpected. This is it. The big upset I mentioned. Werdum may be exposed tonight by Dos Santos's hands. Watch out Fabricio.

Josh Koscheck vs. Thiago Alves

Prediction: Alves via Third Rd. KO

Alves is good. We know that. Kos is good. We know that. Alves wins with a big knee.

Patrick Cote vs. Anderson Silva

Prediction: Silva via Second Rd. KO

I think the Spider is just too good for Cote. Barring a big punch from Cote, this one ends in the late second, third at the latest.
