Dallas Mavericks: Who Will Step Up as Third Scorer for Mavs in Game 6?
Dallas Mavericks Can’t Win NBA Finals As A Two-Man Offense
After so many seasons of the Dallas Mavericks being an offensive juggernaut, it’s hard to imagine their biggest problem being a lack of scoring. Nevertheless, the Mavs enter Game 6 of the Finals with a serious question to answer: who will provide a third scoring option?
Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry have proven that they’ll get their points night in and night out, but the rest of the Dallas offense has been far less reliable. Shawn Marion is the best candidate for a third scorer, but with LeBron James frequently guarding him, he’s had some rough nights in this series (as in Game 5, when he was held to eight points on 4-of-11 shooting).
Dallas weathered Marion’s off night with the help of J.J. Barea, who poured in 17 after struggling to score himself for most of the series. Tyson Chandler and Jason Kidd also stepped up their games for 13 points apiece.
Dallas needs at least three players to break 15 points if they’re going to finish off the Heat tonight. If they can get five in double figures again, they’re a virtual lock for the win.
On the other hand, if Miami can keep the Mavs’ complementary players from putting points on the board, this series will be headed to a Game 7 on Tuesday night.
