Real Madrid Transfer Rumours Center Around Angel Di Maria's Long Term Future

Usually, when you have a contract that runs until 2016, you don't go looking for a new one right now.

Well, unless you're Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria wants a new deal after how last season went, something he says is based off of what he was told by the club. There have been rumors that have him linked to other clubs, but the Argentinian has made it clear that Real Madrid is his first choice.

Per Goal.com:

"I am very pleased and happy after my season. I am now eager for a contract renewal because I was promised that if things went well, I would receive a new deal," he told Radio La Red.

"I am very happy in Madrid and eager to renew before the Copa America if possible."

Di Maria, who joined last summer from Benfica, was surprised at how well his first campaign went, in part thanks to the contribution of the Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho: "I never expected to have such a good season in the league. I am very happy because I have grown a lot in Madrid. With the confidence of the coach, I made big improvements and he helped me to let go and enjoy more freedom."

"I am really hoping the contract situation can be done as quickly as possible but I am calm and I am waiting to see what happens."

The important factor in this entire scenario is that Di Maria isn't pressing the club hard for a new deal.

Yes, he wants a new contract, but he is happy in his situation at Real Madrid, and if Los Blancos give him a good faith effort towards a deal, then he isn't going to cause problems. If the club really did promise him new terms, then Real Madrid has to own up to them.

If not, then Los Blancos will look like liars, who will do anything to land a player, even if it involves lying to them about contracts.

Real Madrid cannot afford that stigma, and must get a deal done with Di Maria as soon as possible.
