Real Madrid Transfer News: Butragueno's Bold Claims Set Club Up for Failure

Real Madrid has done well in the offseason, but it's not enough to put the club in rarefied air.
Los Blancos have opted to avoid flashy, big name signings in the transfer window, instead targeting young players that improve the future of the club.
With names like Fabio Coentrao and Raphael Varane on board, there is a lot of hope at the Bernabeu and the club is brimming with confidence.
While Real Madrid should be pleased with themselves, the club is tempting fate with its hubris.
Per Tribal Football:
Real fell short in the Liga and Champions League last season.
But Butragueno insists: "This is one of the best squads in the club's history. It is extraordinary. Everything can be improved, but last season we showed we can compete at the highest level.
"Now the squad is stronger than last season."
You have to be kidding me.
Los Blancos have a great squad, there is no denying that. However, you cannot lump this side in with the best in the club's history when they haven't even won a single piece of sliverware.
I know that the club is a prideful bunch, but it's insulting to say things like this when Barcelona is clearly the best team in the world.
Barca won the league crown and followed it up with a Champions League victory, eliminating their rivals to do so.
It is obvious to anyone who followed football last season that Barcelona was a class above every other side in the world, and it wasn't even close.
A few offseason signings don't change the balance of power that quickly.
Real Madrid has made great signings in the summer transfer window, but they won't pay off until years down the line, when these players come into their prime.
They were smart, impactful signings, but they aren't immediate game-changers, despite Butragueno's claims.
Calling this side the best in the club's illustrious history is nothing but boisterous comments that will set this group up for disappointment.
If Los Blancos fail to dominate across all competitions, they will disappoint based on these comments, and saying something so patently stupid at this stage of the calendar is more than foolish.
