Green Bay said they would accept Favre but there would be an open quarterback competition (yeah, because that was going to be legit). Favre wasn't for that and he and Green Bay parted ways for good. He was traded to the New York Jets in August for a 2009 draft pick that will be decided depending on how many snaps Favre takes while wearing green, white, and black.
Before the whole trade went down we had to listen to talks about possible tampering charges between Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. No doubt Favre would have loved staying in his division to play his new nemesis twice a season. The NFL found no evidence of the charges and it was dropped.
Of course, the fans in Green Bay were disappointed and still wouldn't accept Rodgers as their new QB. Meanwhile, New Yorkers rejoiced as they saw their team racking up the W-I-N-S, wins, wins, wins. Me, I had to accept the fact that the diva was now in the same division as my Dolphins.
Currently, Jay Glazer broke a story saying Favre may have talked with Detroit Lions' now former President and GM Matt Millen and discussed a game-plan for the Lions game against the Packers in Week Two. Stew Winkel wrote an excellent piece dealing with the ordeal and how ESPN dropped the ball and didn't report the story. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/71971-espn-once-again-disgraces-itself-with-its-coverage-of-brett-favre-story
ESPN, the supposed worldwide leader in sports, felt they couldn't verify the facts and source of the story so didn't run with it. Now, that may be so but it should have at least been mentioned. Is it because of their love affair with Favre that we didn't hear anything about it? Would this have casted their boy in a bad light? Did they have to wait until they could find a way to make sure Favre could come out of it looking innocent?
ESPN isn't afraid to post any and all mistakes, wrongdoings, and quotes dealing with stars like Terrell Owens, Adam Jones (he did ask us all to refrain from calling him "Pac Man", Chad Johnson. Yes, these men have done the wrong thing on many occasions but don't make it seem like Favre is a saint.
Favre did admit to speaking to Millen but denied giving up information on the Packers. Insert sarcastic tone, sure you didn't Favre. Not that it helped the Lions anyway, as they lost 48 to 25. The Lions couldn't beat the Little Giants at their current state.
I'm sure there are many out there who don't agree with me but I'm standing pat on my opinion. He's had a marvelous and historic career but let's not make Favre seem like he's the greatest human being let alone, player. I'm no longer a fan of his but it's not as if he will miss me, not with the millions still out there.
