NBA Trade Rumors Swirl Around Star Point Guard
A week ago, there was a minor media storm brewing around San Antonio Spurs All Star point guard Tony Parker. The former Mr. Eva Longoria reportedly told a French newspaper L 'Equipe
"At the start of the season I said this was our last chance...Tim [Duncan] and Gino [Manu Ginobili] are getting old. It's going to be tough to regenerate ourselves. We will always have a good team but we can no longer say that we're playing for a championship."
Since then he's sort of backed off those fairly troublesome comments. But even if there was no fallout (and a resulting trade) from saying the team was no longer a contender, it might still be time for San Antonio to part with their great player.
Parker just signed a four-year $50 million extension in November that will keep him under contract through 2015, but during the last two years, Georgie Hill has really become a great understudy, averaging around 12 points per game and playing solid defense.

Sure he's not Tony Parker...well at least not yet: he too was a late first round pick that flew under the radar before blossoming into a superstar. But he is younger, far cheaper and has plenty of experience.
More to the point, Parker's trade value will never be higher than it is right now. He's still in his 20s, is locked up for five more years, and is coming off yet another fantastic season. Plenty of clubs out there would love to have him and are likely to overpay for him.
If the Spurs can get someone to offset the "geriatric" games of Duncan and Ginobili, it's worth considering.
