WWE News: Fans Should Be on Swerve Alert While Watching Money in the Bank
If the referee counts to three and CM Punk's music blares through the arena on Sunday night, don't rush to mark out.
While watching Sunday's Money in the Back pay-per-view, always keep in mind that two shiny briefcases will be awarded to two men, and that both will be able to cash them in to keep Punk from walking out of the arena and the company with the WWE title.
No one wants to admit it, but the sad truth is that CM Punk will not leave Chicago with the WWE Championship in his possession.
Somehow, someway, the company will find a way to give Punk the match, but take the title away from him In fact, it would be fitting seeing as the challenger won his first championship using that same exact briefcase.
Money in the Bank is a compelling event for numerous reasons, but the two briefcases in play by the time the main event rolls around is one of the forgotten factors coming into Sunday's show.
Everyone has gotten so wrapped up in the drama between Punk, John Cena and Vince McMahon, that the details have been lost on the public. As we've seen over the past couple of weeks, the creative team isn't afraid to throw curveballs at the audience, and we should be prepared for such.
Punk may be signed to a new deal with the company, or he may not, but either way, he isn't leaving that show with the championship belt.
Giving Punk the victory, only to have his dream crushed in his hometown would be a fitting end to this month-long saga that has captivated the wrestling world and would keep people talking past Sunday night.
It would serve no point to just give Cena the clean victory and send everyone on their way.
That outcome is a disservice to Punk, who has poured his heart and soul into this angle, and it's a slap in the face to the fans, who have become so emotionally invested in the drama these men have created.
All eyes will be on Sunday's main event, and if the company butchers the finish, they will be criticized for a long time, and rightfully so.
But if Punk wins, don't count your chickens before they hatch. The WWE has been leading us by our noses for weeks, and you can't count out one last swerve before it's all said and done.
