Look at those smiles, you would think that these two were the best of friends, comrades, amigos, and quite possibly partners in crime? But according to published reports, these two are not the friends that we were led to believe. Workout partners, yes, a media relations duo, you bet, but sunday morning brunches? late night steaks with each others families? apparently not.
Among its many unexpected consequences, the Mitchell Report has magnified just how different Clemens and Pettitte are. And with the two men set to share a table at Capitol Hill's Rayburn Hall next month, it's as good a time as any to point out that this supposed mentor-protege relationship has been overblown. "They were never as close as they were made out to be," a friend of both said on the condition of anonymity. "They just sort of went along with it in the media because it was a good story."
What are we as fans to make of this? not much, I could care less if they were best friends or mortal enemies all I really cared about is whether or not they won together as a team. Which they did. I am sure along the way they pushed each other endlessly which created a good friendly rivalry between each other. But as far as the whole Mitchell Report thats where it could get ugly and we will find out how close of a friendship these two really shared. Its possible they could turn on each other and tell everything they know and its equally possible they could claim a blind eye to the whole situation. But when jail time is threatened of you for withholding the truth then ones true colors might shine. Time will tell and on February 13th, we will most certainly find out.
