2011 Belmont Stakes: Shackleford and Animal Kingdom Make for Strong Field
Shackleford and Animal Kingdom Make for Strong Field at 2011 Belmont Stakes
With the lack of a Triple Crown contender, the hype around the Belmont Stakes is not as high as it has been over the years.
Even with the lack of publicity from the Triple Crown, both the Kentucky Derby winning horse Animal Kingdom and the Preakness Stakes winning horse Shackleford will be entering the Belmont Stakes.
While Shackleford is already practicing on Belmont’s main track and running great times, Animal Kingdom is still at the Fair Hill Training Center awaiting departure for the Belmont.
As we have learned from this field in the previous two legs of the Triple Crown, this field is one of the toughest in recent memory, but there are some really strong horses that can separate from the pack.
I think the finish of this race will be a crapshoot between Animal Kingdom and Shackleford, but there is another horse that could steal the whole show.
Even after getting caught in traffic, Mucho Macho Man worked his way through the field at the Preakness, but couldn’t get there at the end. I would expect that Mucho Macho Man will be right there as well if he gets a good post draw.
