The Philadelphia Phillies have paid their dues, not just this year, but since 1883. The only other ball clubs that have been around longer than the Phillies are the Chicago Cubs (1876) and the Atlanta Braves (1876.)
Everyone talks about the Cubs drought, but they have won 2 World Series in their history, and Atlanta 3, Philadelphia 1. National League Pennants, Atlanta 17, Chicago 16, this year is Philly's seventh.
Philadelphia fans have suffered through over 10,000 losses, no other team in any professional sport has had that many. There has not been a championship parade down Broad Street in 25 years, and 28 years since the Phillies brought home the only World Championship.
To put this in some perspective, the Florida Marlins were established in 1993, since then they have won two NL pennants and two World Series. That's one every 7.5 years. One title since 1883...the Phillies have paid their dues.
The Phillies lost the Series in 1915, 50, 83, and Joe Carter drove a dagger into the heart of Philly fans in 1993.
This is not to take away from the Tampa Rays, they are a feel good story, the only thing that's missing from the Rays is a Josh Hamilton type. Sure they have had some bad breaks, but they have been in the league for 10 years. They don't know pain yet.

We're going to send you the most entertaining Philadelphia Phillies articles, videos, and podcasts from around the web.
