Gold Cup 2011 Results: Jamaica Beats Guatemala and Other Friday Night Action

Honduras and Jamaica Impressive in Fridays Gold Cup 2011 Results

Jamaica took down Guatemala 2-0 on the strength of two goals in 13 minutes by Demar Phillips.

Phillips first goal broke a 0-0 tie that last until the 65th minute. The goal came off an assist by Keammar Daley and beat goalkeeper Ricard Jerez just inside the right post.

Not long after the first goal Jamaica gained a man advantage after Guatemala's Cristian Noriega’s second yellow card infraction.

The victory earned Jamaica a berth in the Gold Cup quarterfinals.

In other Friday night action Honduras (1-0-1) destroyed Grenada (0-2-0) 7-1.

Goals were flying early and often for the attacking Honduras team. Clive Murray gave Grenada an early and short lived 1-0 lead  in the 19th minute. Then scored Honduras scored three goals in 11 minutes. Carlos Costly netted a hat trick, and Jerry Bengston had two in the Group B match in Miami.

Group B quarterfinalists will be decided in the group stage closing games on Monday in Harrison, N.J.
