True North Sports & Entertainment has ownership of the whiteout.

The request to trademark the name was filed on May 4th and was formalized and finalized on May 9th.

Chris Creamer of, a vast resource for logos and names of all sports, noticed the purchase and trademark ongoing and wrote about it this past week.

A domain name under was registered to SPRY Design Group out of Calgary under the popular Go Daddy domain registry. It looks to possibly be a fan page.

The team name is not expected to be named until later this week or this month, however, True North has only registered the Whiteout trademark.

Other popular team names being thrown about are Polar Bears, Falcons, and, of course, Jets.

However, True North has not purchased the trademark for any of the other teams, besides the approval of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to use the Jets name and logo if True North wished.

The speculation of team name, as well as logo and jersey, looks to continue in Winnipeg.
