MTV Movie Awards 2011: Winners, Red Carpet and More
The MTV movie awards—at the very least the second best awards show put on by the network each year—will be kicking off at 9:00 ET this Sunday, and as per usual, your humble correspondent will have a front row seat. (Albeit not to the movie awards. I just bought a front row seat so I could consistently say that.)
Even better, your HC will not be working alone. This thread will be co-hosted by Colin Ward-Henninger—professional journalist slash collegiate baseball player slash B/R superstar—and we’ll both be following the show as it unfolds, updating from now until Monday morning.
The ceremony (ceremony?) will be hosted by Jason Sudeikis—SNL actor slash collegiate basketball player slash potato chip enthusiast (seriously, take five minutes and watch that linked sketch)—who is both hysterically funny and, as far as I can tell, an awards show neophyte.
Which means I think that he’ll bring it.
There aren’t many awards shows that are more irreverent, more fun, or more diversely attended than this one…and thus I literally have no idea what to be looking for.
I think that’s good, but even if it’s not, I promise you we’ll keep this more than interesting on our end.
I live in Los Angeles and thus consider each awards show an opportunity to steal back Natalie Portman from her dancer husband. I’ve been jogging and am man enough to raise another guy’s baby.
Believe me when I say, our coverage will be in depth.

We’re at two days and counting.
MTV Movie Awards: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 Trailer Unveiled at MTV Movie Awards.
And it is awesome.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but the initial standoff is killer. You can watch it above.
(Note: Our main trailer got taken down, do what’s up there is juuuust about all of it. Still pretty cool. As soon as I find a new one, I’ll have it back up in full.)
The movie is out in a month and a half, and it looks like the fittingly epic conclusion you’d expect for what is now the highest grossing film franchise in the history of the world. If Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was a volleyball, then “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One” would be an appropriately deferent spike. As such, the ball is in the air to be crushed, and “Part Two” looks in position to do so.
Roundabout analogies aside, this movie looks awesome.
If you’re a first in liner on July 15th, I’ll see you there.
Signed,
Ryan “Team Hermione” Braun

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Recap of the MTV Movie Awards 2011.
First off, I realize this show is totally about fun, and that absolutely should influence the winners. With that in mind, here is a quick recap of those going home with popcorn, and in some cases, why I thought someone else should have.
Best Movie Winner: “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”
Should have won: Twilight seems to rule over anything MTV, but most fun movie of the year? Okay, I can go with that. I almost made a play for “Social Network,” but I’m willing to accept “Eclipse” under the guise of fun.
*****
Best Comedic Performance Winner: Emma Stone in “Easy A”
Should have won: Absolutely Emma Stone. She’s adorable and funny and cute and if anyone reading this should happen to know Emma and simultaneously be aware of her desire to land with some witty, curly haired fan of her…look me up.
*****
Best Female Performance Winner: Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Exclipse”
Should have won: I like Kristen Stewart, but let me make a case for Natalie Portman here. Kristen was good, but she’ll be just as good in the next Twilight movie. Natalie’s performance won’t be replicated soon.
*****
Best Scared-As-S**T performance: Ellen Page in “Inception”
Should have won: Not sure. I’m thinking Ryan Reynolds, but I didn’t see “Buried.” So…I’ll let it slide.
*****
Best Line From A Movie Winner: Alexys Nycole Sanchez
Should have won: Totally her. So cute in the movie, so cute at the awards.
*****
MTV Generation Award Winner: Reese Witherspoon
Should have won: Reese. Because I literally am not sure who else to nominate. What are the qualifications for this award, again?
*****
Best Kiss Winner: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”
Should have won: I’m fine with this. The argument would be Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in “Black Swan,” but I consider them more eligible for JAW DROPPING MOMENT.
*****
Best Fight Winner: Robert Pattinson vs. Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuel in “The Twilight Saga: Exclipse”
Should have won: Amy Adams vs. The Sisters. No contest.
*****
Breakout Star Winner: Chloe Grace Moretz in “Kick-Ass”
Should have won: CGM. For stealing literally every scene she’s in in every movie she’s in. You go (hit) girl.
*****
Best Badass Star Winner: Chloe Grace Moretz in “Kick-Ass”
Should have won: Again, you go (hit) girl.
*****
Best Jaw Dropping Moment Winner: Justin Bieber in “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never”
Should have won: No vote in this show was more illustrative of the generation gap then Bieber taking this home over Portman and Kunis. Either Bieber has completely taken over the minds of the MTV voting community, or the MTV voting community is not yet old enough to get into “Black Swan.” Or for that matter, “127 Hours.”
*****
Best Villain Winner: Tom Felton in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1”
Should have won: Had this been Christoph Waltz in “Inglorious Basterds,” I would have put up a fight. As it is, I’m fine with Draco Malfoy.
*****
Best Male Performance Winner: Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”
Should have won: Jesse Eisenberg. For playing the guy who made the website on which everyone is talking about this show.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Kristen Stewart and the Worst Dressed List.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
You knew it was coming. Every awards show or premiere where female celebrities show up in gowns has to have a worst dressed list. Trust me, this year it wasn’t hard to find candidates. Click on the name for a link to the outfit…if you dare…
1. Kristen Stewart –A dress can be ugly, but you should at least make sure it fits. Especially if you’re going to win every award and be on stage for half the show. The way this dress smashed her chest made her look like a 12-year-old boy.
2. Jessica Szohr – I…I mean…there are no words. How can such a pretty girl look so terrible? I guess when you show up in a bed sheet you don’t leave yourself much choice.
3. Brooklyn Decker – She’s one of the hottest women on the planet, but she managed to look like a 70s disco reject. Double fault.
4. Selena Gomez – Ok, so she looks good…a little too good. That’s why she’s on the list. This girl is 18 years old! She’s dating Justin Bieber for goodness sake! Put some clothes on, young lady!
5. Amanda Bynes – Amanda Bynes is a cute, young actress, but this dress accentuates her in all the wrong places. Those shoes aren’t doing her any favors either.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Nicki Minaj Should Have Her Own Category.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
They make up awards all the time at the MTV Movie Awards, so it’s about time that they invented one for one of their recent presenters, Nicki Minaj.
She presented with Ashton Kutcher, and even he had to laugh in disbelief when he took a look at Nicki Minaj’s ass.
For those of you that aren’t aware, that thing seriously needs its own time zone.
She’s one of the most talented rappers out there, male or female, so her praise is deserved. But I find it hard to believe that her bulbous posterior doesn’t have something to do with her fame.
You know your ass is huge when people are questioning whether it’s real or fake. Personally, I don’t see why anyone would purposely develop a rear end that huge.
It has to be uncomfortable on airplanes and in restaurant booths. Not to mention the stretching that must take place in the back of her pants.
If you want my vote, I say the thing’s real. And it should have its own category at the MTV Movie Awards.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: RPatzz, Robert Pattinson Drops F-Bomb on Reese Witherspoon.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
The Generation Award was just presented to Reese Witherspoon at the MTV Movie Awards, and let’s just say that it wasn’t exactly like the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Oscars.
The award was presented by Chelsea Handler, Patrick Dempsey, and Robert Pattinson, but R-Patz definitely stole the spotlight.
Pattinson laughed through an anecdote about how Reese played his mother in the first movie he ever did, but Witherspoon was instrumental in having him cut from the film.
Pattinson then mentioned their most recent film together, Water for Elephants, where the two played lovers. He then delivered the punchline heard round the world when he said:
“I didn’t cut you…but I did ____ you!”
Let’s pretend this is a Mad Lib and you can guess what fills in the blank.
Not to be outdone, Witherspoon returned the favor in her acceptance speech. She said that the punchline Pattinson should have gone with was that he was “the best mother_____ in Hollywood.”
Things are always unpredictable when you mix celebrities, MTV, and the bleep button.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Selena Gomez embarrassed by Justin Bieber kissing joke.
Most embarrassed celebrity so far?
I’d have to go with Selena Gomez, who couldn’t bring herself to look up at the camera whilst being razzed by Jason Sudeikis in his opening monologue.
And it was kind of adorable.
Be careful, Sudeikis warned Gomez, not to accidentally swallow Bieber’s baby teeth while making out with him. Hazards of the Bieber, he claimed.
And she covered her face for just about 20 consecutive seconds.
It was actually super-cute. So cute, I’d go so far as to say this:
Bieber-Gomez? (Biemez? Gober?)
Favorite couple going right now.
Gomez is all kind of affable, and Bieber…kind of a badass. You see the tats on that kid? What is this, a little hip bird action?
If there’s one thing you can take to the bank, it’s that it’s cool to walk down a dark alley with a guy who’s sporting a bird tat on his hip.
Selena, you’re awesome.
Bieber, you’re okay in my book too.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Justin Bieber Wins for Jaw-Dropping Concert?
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
Most of the MTV Movie Awards are conjured up as a way to be different and get huge stars to show up. The award for Best Jaw-Dropping moment was just doled out, and the category featured disturbing nominees such as Natalie Portman ripping her skin off, Steve-O bungee jumping in a Port-o-Potty, and James Franco cutting off his own arm with a utility tool.
So what won?
Justin Bieber performing at a concert!
I’m not sure what about Justin Bieber singing “Never Say Never” is jaw-dropping, but I guess that’s just me.
I understand that you want to give Justin Bieber and award to get him to show up, but can’t you come up with something like “Best Musical Documentary” or “Best Fan Reaction?”
I know that people generally consider these things joke awards, but I’m seriously outraged about this one. Obviously in an awards show where the fans vote Justin Bieber is going to win in any category he’s nominated, so this is totally on the MTV producers for nominating him.
Shame on you.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Steven Spielberg, Elle Fanning Present Exclusive Super 8 Trailer.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
I’m not usually one for alien movies, but I have to admit that this one looks pretty awesome. An exclusive clip of the movie, Super 8, was just presented at the MTV Movie Awards by Steven Spielberg.
In case you missed it, here is a link to the clip on MTV’s site.
From the trailers I had already seen I was already excited, but the clip just made me even more pumped.
The whole Area 51 alien thing has been done a million times before, but any time you can get J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg together, chances are you’re going to have something good. In true Abrams fashion, the clip didn’t give much away, but that’s generally the sign of a good movie.
On another note, can you believe how old Elle Fanning is? That’s Dakota Fanning’s little sister! Last time I checked, Dakota Fanning was eight years old. Now I find out that her little sister is 13 years old and driving in Super 8!
If there’s one guarantee at the MTV Movie Awards, it’s that you’re going to feel old at some point. Or throughout the entire show…

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Robert Pattinson Wins Best Male Performance.
Well, award number one is in the books, and Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake made sure that the show started off with a bang.
Quite literally, I believe this is the first television ceremony I'll seen in which two presenter's announce an award whilst grabbing each other's privates and discussing their familial relationship.
The nominees for Best Male Performance were Jesse Eisenberg in "The Social Network," Robert Pattinson in "Twilgiht: Eclipse," Daniel Radcliffe "Harry Potter: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," Zac Efron in "Charlie St. Cloud," and Taylor Lautner, also in "Twilight: Eclipse."
And the winner for best Male performance?
Team Edward.
Robert Pattinson.
The winner for first memorable display of the evening?
Timberlake and Kunis.
Before announcing Pattinson as the winner of best male performance, Timberlake quipped that there should be a new entry into the field (i.e. his penis), at which timed Kunis had to step away from the mike laughing.
It was a great moment, seemed very impromptu, and is quite possibly the closest I'll get to seeing Mila Kunis perform a sex act on live television.
Not a bad start.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Reese Witherspoon to Receive MTV Generation Award from Robert Pattinson.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
Reese Witherspoon just showed up, and it reminded me that she’s going to receive the MTV Generation Award tonight. Teenage girls will be happy to find out that the award is being presented to her by none other than her Water for Elephants co-star Robert Pattinson.
“Reese Witherspoon is one of the most versatile and accomplished performers of her time," MTV President Stephen Friedman said in a statement. "Our viewers admire her for taking risks and for the breathtaking range of her roles. She fearlessly moves between dramas and comedies and always leaves everyone guessing what she'll do next. We are thrilled to honor Reese with this year's 'MTV Generation Award.'”
It seems like Witherspoon is a little young to be getting a “generation” award but, hey, she has made some of the most successful films of our generation.
Reese has been nominated for several MTV Awards in her career and even took home the Best Comedic Performance Award in 2002 for her work in Legally Blonde.
In previous years the award was given to Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Sandra Bullock, so Reese is in pretty good company.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Blake Lively, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the Nude Photo Scandal.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
Blake Lively has been in the news more than any other celebrity recently, and not for particularly good reasons.
First the rumors were flying about a possible romance between the Gossip Girl star and Leonardo DiCaprio. People are questioning whether they’d show up to the MTV Movie Awards together, but word on the street is that Leo isn’t even showing up.
The other question surrounding Blake Lively is how she’s going to handle the whole nude picture scandal.
For those of you that haven’t heard (where have you been hiding?), there have been some nude pictures circulating that Blake claims aren’t of her but a hacker says that he got from Lively’s phone.
Blake is a presenter at the MTV Movie Awards, and her “people” have given an indication of how she’s going to handle it:
“Blake Lively's reps haven't backed off their insistence thatpurported nude photos of her that hit the web this week are fake. But it sounds like she's also going to defuse the story with humor.
MTV isn't commenting on her appearance, but a source tells Celebuzz that "They're working on a moment in the show where she'd make fun of it."”
I would think that if the pictures aren’t of her, there’s no need to acknowledge it. But then again I’m no publicist and I don’t get paid to tell celebrities what to say.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Paul McDonald and Twilight Star Nikki Reed Engaged?
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
If you ever wondered what winning 8th place on American Idol gets you, look no further than Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed.
The American Idol contestant and Twilight star started dating while McDonald was on the show, and rumor has it that they recently got engaged after just three months of dating:
Could the rumors be true - that Huntsville's Paul McDonald, who appeared on"American Idol" this year, and "Twilight" star Nikki Reed are engaged?
If you believe some of their friends on Facebook, the moment of truth could come tonight when Reed appears at the MTV Movie Awards. She will apparently be wearing a new piece of jewelry - an engagement ring - and McDonald will be in the audience.
It must have been McDonald’s raspy versions of Rod Stewart classics that won her heart. Or maybe it was his wardrobe selection.
You never know with these rumors, but there’s an easy way to tell if it’s right. We haven’t spotted an engagement ring on Nikki’s hand yet, but the night is far from over…

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Elizabeth Reaser Arrives in Particularly Short Skirt.
This was literally the notice that went through the office. And I got it.
Elizabeth Reaser in a short skirt.
Now, full disclosure, I had no prior knowledge of who Elizabeth Reaser was. I knew she'd been in the Twilight movies, but I couldn't put a face to her, nor could I figure out what was at the base of her short skirt. Or at the base of her wearing a short skirt, let's say.
So, I did what any moderately responsible reporter would do.
I IMDB'ed her.
From IMDB:
Elizabeth began college at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan, but after one year yearned to leave mid-west and expand her horizons. She applied (with her parent's blessing) at Juilliard School of Drama, and was accepted. From Juilliard she was awarded a Bachelor's of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in 1999.
She struggled at first, but soon found adequate representation, and a part on the daytime drama series, "Guiding Light". Since then, she has become an accomplished film, television, and stage actor, landing numerous supporting and leading roles.
Turns out, she's a pretty talented actress.
In 2004, Interview magazine named Reaser as one of their "14 To Be" emerging creative women. In 2006, she took home the "Jury Award" at the Newport Beach Film Festival for her performance in the movie Sweet Land, and in 2007 she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for the same part.
Reaser plays Esme Cullen—Robert Pattinson's adoptive mother—in the Twilight series, and all signals seems to indicate that her career is just getting going.
In fact, everything I found about Reaser seems pretty positive.
Not only is she a talented and successful actress...I found nothing about a husband.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Harry Potter’s Tom Felton, Best Villain Nominee, Hits Red Carpet.
From Colin Ward-Henninger:
Stars that we actually care about don’t normally show up until a little closer to the show, but we just had our first Harry Potter sighting on the MTV Movie Awards 2011.
The brave early-arriver was none other than Best Villain Nominee Tom Felton, aka Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter films.
Felton isn’t the biggest Harry Potter star that we’ll see tonight, but he did win the Best Villain Award at last year’s MTV Movie Awards, so he has the chance to become a back-to-back winner.
He’s up against Leighton Meester from The Roommate and Mickey Rourke from Iron Man 2, so there’s definitely some stiff competition.
If it was the award for “scariest face,” Rourke would win, hands down, but it’s not. And the only time you’re scared of Leighton Meester is if you’re hitting on her at a bar and she asks you what kind of car you drive.
So I’d say that Felton has a pretty good shot of winning this year’s award and cementing himself in Best Villain history.
Besides…pale blonde kids are always really, really creepy.

MTV Movie Awards 2011: Thoughts while watching people stroll the red carpet.
Consider this an opinion piece.
Did I get old really, really quickly? Or am I just now coming to grips with the speed in which Hollywood “churns out a new batch?”
I literally have no idea who 80% of these people are. I’ve been sitting on the red carpet for a half-hour now, and literally…no idea.
I think every girl is cute and may or may not be Taylor Swift, and I think every bouncer is Cee Lo Green. (I asked one, and he was definitely not.)
I feel out of place.
Until…
Okay, now here we go!
It’s Charlie from Always Sunny. That’s a step back towards my comfort zone. It’s hard not to smile when you see Charlie Day.
Ah, and Draco from Harry Potter. Slightly scarier, but familiar nonetheless.
Okay, maybe I have to take the preceding back.
Forgot one critical note.
Rule of thumb in Hollywood: If you’re reasonably famous, don’t be early.
