Lots of Speed in the feature at Monmouth
Lots of Speed in the feature at Monmouth

The feature race at Monmouth tomorrow is the five and a half furlong turf race that appears to have a lot of speed.

Silver Time, Forever Grateful, Out Post, Cherry on Top and Colony Club should all be trying to get to the lead of this short turf race, which could prevent all of them from winning.

At 6:1, Colony Club is by far the most interesting of the group.  This five-year-old has won four races and finished second four times at the distance.  In her last race, she finished fifth but that was over a very yielding track, which she didn't seem to like.

Ahvee's Destiny is the 5:2 morning line favorite and should be closing into the fast early fractions.  This Linda Rice trained seven-year-old has top jockey Joe Bravo aboard and has eight wins on the turf in her career.  The one thing I don't like is that she hasn't won in almost two years on the turf, but the fast pace should help her.

Dances With Ashley is currently 10:1 and is my long shot special.  This lightly raced four-year-old is making her first start since being claimed by Edward Plesa on April 25.  This is a step up in class, but I really like her recent start, where she finished fifth at seven and a half furlongs.

I think this has the potential to be a very exciting race, with a lot of early speed and a very good stalker in Island Time right behind the leaders.  The pace should be around 55 for five furlongs and I like Colony Club to have the lead at the top of the stretch.

Island Time will be the first real threat in the stretch followed by Ahvee's Destiny and Dances with Ashley.  I think Colony Club is good enough to win this race, but I like Island Time to win this race in deep stretch by holding off both Ahvee's Destiny and Dances with Ashley.
