WWE News: Latest Update on Averno Signing with the WWE
WWE: Averno Getting a New Name in the WWE?
News broke earlier this week that the WWE has signed Mexican wrestling star Averno to work with the struggling Sin Cara on the Smackdown brand.
Well, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of the main reasons Averno was brought in is because Sin Cara was the first major acquisition for Triple H in his new chief of talent operations role, and the company is determined to make him successful, even though his inability to speak English and adjust to the WWE style are already causing huge concern amongst WWE officials.
We've all heard about Sin Cara's struggles in the WWE, so let's focus on Averno here. The WON also reports that Averno will almost certainly debut with a new ring name and will wrestle without a mask.
I like the idea of Averno going mask-less, because it's worked pretty well for Alberto Del Rio, who worked as the mask "Dos Caras" in Mexico prior to joining the WWE.
But I'm not sure about the name change, as the WON reports that one name being discussed for Averno is "Rey Ortiz II."
Really? That sounds like the long lost cousin of Ricky Ortiz. Not to mention the fact that he would have the same first name as the WWE's biggest Mexican star, Rey Mysterio.
I understand the reasoning behind changing Averno's ring name (for copyright/trademark purposes, etc.).
But, go back to the drawing board, WWE. I'm sure you can come up with something better than Rey Ortiz.
