Manchester United Transfer Rumours: Man U Loses Young Wing Prospect to Barca
Manchester United Transfer Rumours Center on a Young Winger
Even if you're a top club like Manchester United, you can still lose out on a young prospect.
Sir Alex Ferguson had set his sights on Leeds winger Elliott Kebbie, and it looked like the Red Devils had the inside track for the promising young talent, only Barcelona never gave up.
The Champions League and La Liga winners pushed hard for the winger, and in the end, Barca stole Kebbie right from under Man U's nose.
Per The Daily Mail:
Leeds winger Elliott Kebbie has been long been tracked by Sir Alex Ferguson, and even spent time on trial at Old Trafford last year.
However the 16-year-old winger is on the brink of a move to the European champions after turning out for the Juvenil B team and spending time at the famous La Masia training site.
The winger, who was born in Halifax, is blessed with phenomenal pace and was considered a bright sprinting prospect before choosing to focus fully on football.
Kebbie was due to graduate to the scholarship programme at Leeds' famous Thorp Arch academy next season but has instead made the switch to Spain, for which the Elland Road outfit can expect a hefty fee.
Barcelona is the top club in the world, and if it comes calling, it's hard to resist, even if Ferguson is on the other line, outlining your future with England's top club.
The Red Devils have been losing a lot of talent to Barca, and for Ferguson and supporters of the club, it has to be frustrating. Man U can't beat Barcelona on the pitch and it can't do it in the transfer market either.
That is what separates it from a club like Arsenal, which prefers to cultivate young talent and make small moves in the open market.
Years from now, I'm sure we'll be talking about Kebbie making plays in the red and blue stripes.
