The NBA Finals started off with a bang on Tuesday, as the Miami Heat were able to edge out the Dallas Mavericks in a back-and-forth contest that saw the Heat win by eight.
There were a number of stories to come out of the game. Among them, the most notable was Dirk Nowitzki’s torn tendon on his non-shooting hand. Will it affect Dirk moving forward?
Another story was the ability of LeBron James and the rest of the Heat to finish this game off in style. Numerous times over the course of the regular season, the team was being criticized for its inability to hold off opponents, but they are making up for it when it counts.
What lies on the horizon for Game 2? Will the Mavericks be able to make the necessary adjustments to walk out of Miami with a victory?
Rick Carlisle claims to know what adjustments need to be made in order to turn the Mavs fortune around. ESPN’s J.A. Adande reported a discussion between Carlisle and an unnamed reporter, but no secrets were divulged:
"We'll make adjustments, for sure," Carlisle said.
"Like?" he was asked.
"You want to know specifically," he responded.
"Please," the questioner begged.
"We'll be ready for Game 2," was all Carlisle would allow.
Carlisle had better know what adjustments need to be made. We can speculate on them until Game 2 tonight, so until then the rumors will fly.
Regardless of what adjustments the Mavericks make, don’t expect the Heat to sit back on their heels and be content with a split in Miami. Love them or hate them, the Heat are on a mission.
