In light of the bankruptcy and subsequent shut down of EliteXC, there are a few MMA stars without a company to call home. Robby Lawler, Jake Shields, Antonio Silva,Gina Carano, and last but not least, the infamous Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson.

That's right, I said it, Kimbo is an MMA star. Now I know what you're thinking; he got knocked out in 14 seconds by some guy we have never heard of that didn't even know he was going to be in the fight until he showed up that night.

And you know what? You're right.

Kimbo isn't the amazing talent that he was played up to be by EliteXC. His fight game is very one dimensional in that he stands and punches, and that's all.

So why, might you ask does he belong in the UFC among names like Couture, Silva(Anderson and Wandy), Penn, an St. Pierre?

Because he puts butts in seats, and could really help boost a pay-per-view. Those reasons, and the fact that there are many MMA fans out there who would love to see him in the Octagon with a real fighter.

You're probably right, if he were to square off with Randy Couture, or Frank Mir, he would probably be beaten sensless, and may have multiple limbs broken.....But I'd pay to see it, and I think you would too.

The average MMA fan may still believe that this guy is a legit fighter capable of contending in a company like the UFC. Some people may believe that it was a fluke that he was beaten like a rented mule by Seth Petruzeli.  On the other side of that coin, the more avid MMA fan would like to see that doubt erased.

His handlers could come out and tell us all that Kimbo would have beaten Petruzelli 9 out of 10 times, or that a low blow changed the fight, or the lights got in his eyes or whatever other line they needed to try to convince people that Kimbo is the real deal.

They could build the fight up for six months, and put it on a huge card with a bunch of other big names. Maybe even throw in a title fight or two. It would be an action packed card with world class fighters in world class fights. That way when the night was over, everyone would know that this guy had no business in the same ring with any of those guys, and the myth that is Kimbo Slice could finally be put to rest.

From that point on, anybody that thought Kimbo, or EliteXC was as good as it got in the sport of mixed martial arts would know the truth.
