Brock Lesnar vs. Junior dos Santos, TUF 13 on Spike TV: Fightin’ Tony Ferguson
I’m not gonna pretend everything that an individual does while sloppy drunk is indicative of his/her true nature, but there’s enough truth to that stance to make me leery of saying too much positive about Tony Ferguson.
As a person.
As a fighter?
Whoo boy, it’s tough to see anyone from this season pushing him to the edge he disappeared over at the end of Episode 9. While he hasn’t shown a ton on the ground, his striking shows similar speed and crispness of other strikers in the hou’. The rub is his shots come with far more power—the difference is obvious to the naked eye.
While the other 170 pounders float and flick like normal welterweights, even Tony’s jab carry heavier implications. Can’t see anyone outstriking him based on what we’ve seen.
That’s another story altogether.
“Cold Steel” Chuck O’Neil probably won’t be the guy to do it—his strength seems to be his hands and that doesn’t bode well for him—but Ramsey Nijem might be up to the task.
