From the Sabres head office comes the news that newly acquired defenseman and captain Craig Rivet underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee today. He is expected to miss at least two weeks.
Rivet had an assist in last night's game against the Boston Bruins.
Rivet was acquired in a trade from San Jose in the offseason and was named team captain for the Buffalo Sabres during the preseason, voted in by the players.
*Update - Apparently this surgery was for an existing condition that had been bothering him and not a direct result of any play during the Boston game. Head Coach Lindy Ruff says, “We knew it was coming. He’s been playing on a pretty sore knee that hasn’t been settling down and decided to get [the surgery] done.
“He’s been hobbling pretty good. I thought in the Vancouver game it was really noticeable. He got through that game and it felt a little bit better… but it was something that needed to be done because it wasn’t going to go away.”
