UFC 130 Results: Rick Story Defeats Thiago Alves
Thiago must agree that he's lost both early rounds as he comes quickly out of the gates to start the third. They're trading shots right in front of the media and Alves is definitely landing the stiffer shots, but Rick Story has a strong chin so he walks right through them and answers with shots of his own.
Alves changes tactics and crushes Story with a leg kick that finally backs the American off the attack, but not for long.
Story is back pressing the Pitbull into the cage and Alves knows he doesn't want to be here so he reverses and tries to trip the Horror, but superlative strength and balance from Rick keep him on his feet. He wades right back into the teeth of the PItbull's striking and wears some abuse, but dishes out some of his own as well.
Now we're beginning to see the fight I thought we'd see all three rounds; unfortunately, we're only seeing it in spurts.
The exchanges are coming more furiously and Alves finally begins to mix in those lethal knees, but it looks like it'll be too little too late as the seconds tick away. Story and Alves trade hooks and hay-makers right to the final horn.
Think that one has to go to Alves, 10-9, but I've still got Story with the UD.
Rick Story defeats Thiago Alves by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
The crowd is ruthlessly booing the decision and I have no idea why. Maybe you could argue Alves won, but it sure didn't look that way to me and I picked the dude to win i.e. if there were any argument for injustice, I'd be making it.
