I usually find myself getting really excited the closer we get to a pay-per-view, but this is one of the few times I am having a hard time getting amped up for this event.
I thought my blood would getting flowing after watching both the "Rampage: In The Moment" special and "Countdown to UFC 130" last night, but lo and behold, I am still at square one.
The one matchup I am looking forward to is the welterweight showdown between former No. 1 contender Thiago Alves and the surging Rick Story. I have really grown to be a big Alves fan and believe with the right focus and the proper dedication, he can work his way back towards a title shot.
Story is the type of guy who could live next door to you. He is not flashy, but seems to be getting the job done.
He won a hard-fought unanimous decision against fellow prospect Johnny Hendricks at The Ultimate Fighter Finale 12 in December. That was his fifth win in a row and his only loss in the UFC since losing his debut to John Hathaway at UFC 99 in June of 2009.
They fight the fights for a reason and there have been other cards that I felt were going to be boring or would be full of non-eventful fights that wound up be very entertaining.
UFC 108 is one that comes to mind, and if we are lucky, UFC 130, despite all of its shortcomings, can still produce some fireworks.
