Samir Nasri to Manchester United Rumours: Arsenal Would Lose a Star

Ben JohnstonMay 25, 2011

For all theย abuse we have directed at Samir Nasri, some of it deserved, if the rumours linking him with a move to Old Trafford are true and itโ€™s something Sir Alex Ferguson is working on behind the scenes, then I would be absolutely delighted.

What better way to stick the middle finger up at one of our biggest title rivals, a team on the verge of implosion andย about to abandon everything they hold dear in a summer transfer rampage than to sign one of their best players?

More relevantly to us, what better way to show to the world that we mean business by signing a young, hungry player who offers creativity, work-rate and is a ready-made replacement for the player that Ryan Giggs has become?

With Evra talking Nasri up today and suggesting that a move to Manchester United would help him win things, you canโ€™t help but think this is going to turn into this summer's saga, as much as I hate them.

I was never convinced by Nasri, despite Arsenal fans labelling him the best thing since a caveman rubbed two sticks together, and found him a bit of a fairy, happy to prance about 30 yards from goal playing nice passes but not actually going anywhere.

A glut of goals and, mainly, his performance against England in the international have convinced me that I was probably wrong.

I have criticised Nani for fading badly in the second half of the season, which is why I believe that we should sell him if we get a mega offer or if an auction between Inter and Juve appears to be taking place.

I think we should sell him not because heโ€™s on bad form, but because I think his form at the start of the season was unusually good and if we donโ€™t cash in now weโ€™ll end up with a frustrating, selfish player whoโ€™s lost half his market value this time next year.

Nasri is far too good a team player to fall victim to that, something that Nani isnโ€™t nor ever will be.

Nani is an individual, but where Nasri comes from, there is no space for individuals; which is why, as our team moves closer and closer to the total team ideal after being based around the magical ability of Ronaldo and the goals of Rooney in the late 00โ€ฒs, Nasri is the kind of player we need to be moving towards, and Nani the type we should be moving away from.
