Calzaghe: The Final Showdown

Bleacher ReportCorrespondent IOctober 20, 2008

After ruling out a rematch with Bernard Hopkins, Joe Calzaghe announces his retirement after his next fight against Roy Jones Jr.  The Welshman stated, “Jones Jr. will the last fight for me, definitely - that's it, me done”.

The fight will take place in New York’s Madison Square Garden on November 8th 2008.  To complete a magical career, the only legend he has to beat is Roy Jones Jr. and this is exactly what Calzaghe said ; "I'm hungry for Roy Jones Jr. but after that my motivation for boxing will be over, because when I knock him out I'll have beaten the only legend I haven't take care of."

It could be argued that to complete his amazing list of victories he should beat Kelly Pavlik, however, having beaten Bernard Hopkins who in turn beat Pavlik, I think this is not necessary.

Overall, Joe Calzaghe’s career has been spread over fifteen years and with a 45 wins and zero defeats or draws including 32 knockouts he has a sure spot in the boxing Hall of Fame.
