2011 NBA Mock Draft: Will Jimmer Fredette Rise into the Top 10?
Doug Pensinger/Getty Images
Now that the NBA draft lottery is behind us, the 2011 draft is now approaching quickly. June 23 will mark the day of one of the worst drafts in league history. It's just one month away, but there are still so many questions to be asked.
Will the Cleveland Cavaliers take Kyrie Irving or Derrick Williams with the first-overall pick?
Will Enas Kanter boycott being selected by the Toronto Raptors?
Speaking of boycotts, will Ricky Rubio finally come to America and play for the Minnesota Timberwolves to fill their point guard need, or will they be forced to draft yet another.
And of course, will BYU sniper Jimmer Fredette rise into the top 10 on draft day?
All these questions will be answered and more in this 2011 NBA mock draft.
Stay tuned for updates throughout the day.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Chicago Bulls Select Marshon Brooks Out Of Providence
Yeah, I just mocked a guard to the Bulls with their last first round pick. They need a point guard that bad.
Seriously though, they are set at the point guard position with MVP Derrick Rose starting and a very quality backup in C.J. Watson.
At forwards, Luol Deng is a good offensive player and lock down defender. Carlos Boozer is great on paper and Taj Gibson is great in games.
They also have two phenomenal defensive centers in Joakim Noah and Omer Asik.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
All they need is some offensive fire power from the wing and they're practically a dream team, but they need a lot of it. Just adding Nolan Smith won't get the job done, but adding Smith and the electric Marshon Brooks might.
Brooks averaged 24.6 points and 7 rebounds a game for Providence. He didn't have much help around him. You can say he only put up those numbers because the offense revolved around him, or you can say he put up those numbers even though he was the focus of every defense he came up against.
At 6'5", 190, Brooks may be able to provide the Bulls with enough scoring punch to take them to the next level.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, San Antonio Spurs Select Darius Morris Out Of Michigan
After being upset by the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, the San Antonio Spurs are going to make some big changes this offseason even after finishing with the best record in the West.
Tony Parker's name came up in trade rumors last season and will most likely reemerge this offseason. If they trade the aging Parker, George Hill will take over creating the need for a backup point.
That's where Darius Morris comes in.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Morris averaged 15 points and 6.7 assists last year for the Wolverines. He has great size at 6'4", 190 pounds.
He excels at attacking the basket and kicking it to open teammates with his great vision. Morris has a nice jump shot, but he could work on his three point shooting.
The Spurs youth movement most likely needs to begin now. Having two quality young point guards will help in that process.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Chicago Bulls Select Nolan Smith Out Of Duke
Ronnie Brewer is worthless on offense and Kyle Korver is worthless on defense. If only you could combine them into...never mind. Keith Bogans is nothing special either.
The Bulls really need a shooting guard.
If only Dwyane Wade would've just came home. He could've been part of the Big 12 instead of the Big Three, even though the Big Three are winning right now.
Nolan Smith is a point guard, but he's a scoring point guard that would be able to play minutes at the two.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Smith averaged 20.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds last year for the Blue Devils. He also shot 35 percent from downtown last year.
He proved he could run the show after Kyrie Irving went down with an injury. Smith measured in at over 6'3" at the NBA Combine so that will help his chances to get playing time if the Bulls want him to play shooting guard. He was only listed at 6'2" this season.
Besides a starting power forward, shooting guard is the only position the Bulls need help at. Fix that, and their team is practically flawless.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, New Jersey Nets Select Tyler Honeycutt Out Of UCLA
In this mock draft, the Nets traded up for Derrick Williams. They filled their hole at power forward replacing Derrick Favors, now they need help at small forward.
Tyler Honeycutt could be the man for the job.
Honeycutt averaged 12.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game last season.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
He's a good athlete at 6'8", but must add weight at 188 pounds. He led the Pac-10 conference in blocked shots and is a great on-ball defender.
Honeycutt has a solid jump shot as well and he can shoot out to the three point line. He put up an average of 36.2 percent from downtown last season.
Honeycutt may not get a ton of playing time right away, but he should eventually be able to compete with Damion James for the starting spot.
2011 NBA Mock Draft, Dallas Mavericks Select Nikola Mirotic Out Of Yugoslavia
Dirk Nowitzki will be 33 years old next month. The Mavericks don't have a quality backup power forward as it is. They could choose to select one in the first round of this year's draft.
Nikola Mirotic is very talented, but he just signed an extension with his professional team over in Europe. He's a steal talent wise at this point in the draft, but he won't come to America to play for a couple of years.
He just turned 20 a few months ago. By the time Dirk retires, Mirotic should be ready to play in the NBA.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Guess what? We have yet another skinny European big man in the first round.
Mirotic is 6'10", 210 pounds. I didn't know it was possible to be that tall and that light, but apparently it is. Mirotic is going to be introduced to a new world once he sees his first weight room.
He has a nice jump shot and is athletic for a man his height (I refuse to say size).
Whether Dallas wins the NBA Finals are not, they should look to the future with Mirotic.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Boston Celtics Select Jordan Williams Out Of Maryland
Danny Ainge pulled off the trade of the century by trading one of the best post defenders in the NBA and one of the best guards off the bench in the NBA for an above average small/power forward. Way to go Danny!
Trading Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson may have cost the Boston Celtics a run at the title. Doc Rivers even admitted the trade was a total flop.
Perkins was a key part in their 2010 title run and started on their 2008 championship team. Nate Robinson is an ex-NBA sixth man of the year candidate who's energy and scoring off the bench can only be matched by a select few: Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry, Lou Williams, and that's it.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Now that Perkins is gone and Shaquille and Jermaine O'Neal are shells of them former selves, they could really use some help at center.
Jordan Williams is 6'10", 260 pounds. He averaged 16.9 points and 11.8 rebounds a game last year.
Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen are aging. Their dynasty may be over as it is. If Ainge tries to pull a few more awesome trades, it could be over for good.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, New Orleans Hornets And Oklahoma City Thunder Swap Chris Paul And Russell Westbrook While Hornets Select Kyle Singler Out Of Duke
Russell Westbrook is hurting the Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs with his shot selection. Chris Paul is going to most likely leave in free agency next summer if he is not traded. It's the perfect match.
In the trade, the Hornets would pick up the Thunder's first round pick and maybe another pick or player.
With the pick, the Hornets draft sharp shooter Kyle Singler
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Chris Paul was the only Hornet who shot well from behind the arc during their playoff series with the Lakers. Trevor Ariza was never a three point specialist and Marco Belinelli and Jarrett Jack both struggled with their shot.
Kyle Singler is a phenomenal shooter and at 6'9", he can create his own shot and shoot over anyone. He averaged 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds last season.
He would have to come off the bench to provide a scoring spark because he's unathletic and weak on the defensive end. I see Singler spending hours working on his shot in the future, but not working out to get stronger or faster.
2011 NBA Mock Draft, Houston Rockets Select Lucas Nogueira Out Of Brazil
Starting power forward Luis Scola is 31 years old and isn't getting any younger. Yao Ming is done in Houston and he may be done in the NBA. Starting center Chuck Hayes is 6'6".
Yes, I already mocked Donatas Motiejunas to the Rockets earlier in the first round, but he's a power forward. For all of the reasons stated above, they must continue to add height to their team. They do have Hasheem Thabeet, but if he's part of the big picture in the Rockets' quest into get back to playoff contention, they aren't headed in the right direction.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
If the two overseas players turn out, they would have an impressive future big man rotation in Patrick Patterson, Jordan Hill, Motiejunas, and Nogueira.
Nogueira is another skinny 7'0" at only 225 pounds. With his frame though, he can definitely add weight. He's also only 18 years old.
The Rockets are set at point guard with Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic. They have their number one scoring option in Kevin Martin and plenty of young wings around him in Courtney Lee, Chase Budinger, and Terrance Williams.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Denver Nuggets Select Kenneth Faried Out Of Morehead State
Chris Anderson is 32 years old and isn't going to be around forever. If Kenneth Faried is available when they are on the clock in the first round, they may not be able to pass up another high energy shot blocker/rebounder.
Faried has been labeled as the next Dennis Rodman, he's that productive on the offensive glass. He averaged 17.3 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 1.9 steals his senior year at Morehead St.
As you can see in young bigs like Kevin Love and DeJuan Blair, dominant college rebounders have an easy transition to the NBA more times than not.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Faried could start out as an energy player off the bench, and eventually take over Kenyon Martin's starting spot at power forward.
The Nuggets have their point guard of the future in Ty Lawson. They have plenty of talented wings in J.R. Smith, Aaron Afflalo, Danillo Gallinari, and Wilson Chandler. Nene looked dominant in the playoffs and they have a solid trading piece in Raymond Felton.
It doesn't look like trading Carmelo Anthony away will hurt them in the short term or long term. They are a move or two away from competing for a title once again.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Portland Trailblazers Select Markieff Morris Out Of Kansas
The Portland Trailblazers don't have any glaring weaknesses so they can just go out and draft the best player available.
Markieff Morris would provide some quality depth at the power forward position. Marcus Camby is getting up there in age so any youth on the inside could really help.
At 6'10", 245 pounds, Morris length would be welcome in Portland. He is also a physical presence in the paint. He averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds last season for the Jayhawks.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Morris also has a nice mid-range game and actually shot 42 percent from beyond the arc last season.
The Trailblazers are so close to becoming a championship contender. Brandon Roy is so talented, but injury after injury could cut his career short.
Portland doesn't have forever. They were an up and coming team about two years ago. That time has passed.
If they don't make the necessary moves to take their talent to another level soon, they could lose Roy.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Minnesota Timberwolves Select Josh Selby Out Of Kansas
David Kahn and the Minnesota whiffed on Johnny Flynn and Ricky Rubio isn't going to ever put on a Timberwolves jersey so they are forced to draft a point guard once again.
In the 20s with not many sure things left, they choose to take a chance on the electric Josh Selby.
Selby averaged 7.9 points and 2.2 assists a game for the Jayhawks last year. Why is he a first round prospect? It's all because of the magic word: potential.
If you watch this highlight reel of Selby in high school, you'll see why he was a top recruit and chose to go one-and-done.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Selby wasn't a total flop in college. His first game back from a nine-game suspension he scored 21 points against USC. Through the first 13 games of the season, he was probably averaging about 15 a game. He would never go on to match those 21 points the rest of the year as his minutes disappeared as the season went on.
He's only 20 years old. He has plenty of time to mature and improve as a point guard.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Charlotte Bobcats Select Tobias Harris Out Of Tennessee
The Charlotte Bobcats wisely traded away All-Star small forward Gerald Wallace for pennies so now they have a huge hole they must fill on the wing. Michael Jordan must have thought that Chris Paul would rather play with a clueless rookie than the high-flying Gerald Wallace. Of course, he probably only made the trade because he believed Adam Morrison would be there sign and insert into the starting lineup.
The 6'8", 225 pound Tobias Harris averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 boards in his freshman year for the Volunteers.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Harris could end up playing a point-forward role for the Bobcats because he can handle the ball well, is a willing passer, and can rebound. On the defensive end, he can defend on the perimeter and the post.
He is another one-and-done college basketball player that, looking at his draft projection, could've improved his stock from staying another year in college.
Well, at least he would get to learn from the best wing of all-time in Charlotte. Michael Jordan could teach him how to dunk, shoot buzzer beaters, and give away All-Star small forwards.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, Washington Wizards Select Reggie Jackson Out Of Boston College
Right now, the Wizards have nothing behind John Wall at the point guard position. They went from having Wall, Gilbert Arenas, and Kirk Hinrich to having just Wall.
He played 37 minutes a game last year, by far the most on the team. Washington needs to find him a quality backup so he can take a breather every once in a while.
Reggie Jackson skill set is the perfect complement to John Wall's.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
While John Wall is a floor general who loves to get his teammates involved, Reggie Jackson would prefer to score himself. He averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds last year at Boston College. He also had a shooting average of 42 percent from three point land.
Three pointers aren't Wall's specialty. He shot under 30 percent from downtown last season. Having Jackson on the floor would have the same type of effect as a change-of-pace back in football.
The Wizards are so close to becoming playoff contenders. If they can add a future starting small forward with their sixth pick and a solid backup with their second, they're going to be that much closer to breaking through.

2011 NBA Mock Draft, New York Knicks Select Chris Singleton Out Of Florida State
The New York Knicks need help on the defensive end.
Carmelo Anthony is an offensive minded player. Amare Stoudamire is an offensive minded player. Chauncey Billups plays defense, but he's not part of the big picture for the Knicks anyway.
All Chris Singleton does is play defense, well, at least in the NBA. He averaged 13.1 point, 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and two steals per game in college.
Singleton has an inconsistent jumper and he can't dribble. Good thing he does everything else well.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Being 6'9" and very athletic, he was made for the defensive end. He can pick your pocket, stuff the ball back into your face, and rebound.
Singleton is also just as good at defending players out on the perimeter as he is in the post.
He's not going to come off the bench and give you 15 points, but he's going to provide shutdown defense when he is on the court and the Knicks desperately need a player like that. They don't want Carmelo guarding LeBron for 48 minutes.
Singleton could even get time at power forward in Mike D'Antoni's run and gun system.
Tom Pennington/Getty Images
2011 NBA Mock Draft, Philadelphia 76ers Select Tristan Thompson Out Of Texas
The young Philadelphia 76ers have plenty of talented back court players, but their big men must be improved. There is no center worth taking to replace Spencer Hawes, so power forward depth will have to do.
Tristan Thompson will fit in well with the athletic 76ers. He can't jump out of the gym and he uses that ability to consistently rebound and block shots.
He averaged 13.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks last year for the Longhorns.
READ MORE: Full 1st Round Mock
Thompson makes plays in paint. Again, rebounds, blocks, he has a great post game on the offensive end. His weakness is hit shot though which will come in time if he works on it.
He is also undersized for a power forward. At 6'8", 230 pounds, he strong, but he'll have to rely on his athletic ability to make it in the league.
He'll most likely be a career backup, but he should be able to contribute to a bench right away. Thompson is a high energy player and there isn't a team in the NBA that would turn that type of player down.
