The year’s second tennis major, the 2011 French Open, gets underway on Sunday on the unmistakable red clay of Roland Garros in Paris.
But it’s not just the red clay that will be at the forefront of fans’ minds. There are loads of storylines to follow.
Can men’s No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic keep his amazing win streak alive against the likes of top-seed Rafael Nadal? Could legendary Swiss master Roger Federer go all the way to his 17th grand-slam title? Or could an up-and-coming, lesser-known player—a Gael Monfils, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Gilles Simon—get hot and shock the world?
Without Serena or Venus Williams in the women’s draw, can Caroline Wozniacki win her first-career major? Can hard-working Italian Francesca Schiavone repeat her 2010 title? Or can Maria Sharapova return to the top?
Stick with Bleacher Report throughout the tournament for multiple updates each day with fun slideshows and hard-hitting analysis along the way.

The highlights of Friday’s French Open action at Roland Garros shouldn’t be hard to pick out. After the women’s semifinal clashes on Thursday, it’s the men’s turn on Friday.
In the first tilt, top seed Rafael Nadal, already a five-time French Open champ despite turning just 25 on Friday, squares off against Andy Murray, the No. 4 seed. Nadal holds a 10-4 lifetime record against the Brit and is an astonishing 43-1 in his career at Roland Garros.
“None of that bodes well for Murray, but the Scot does have reasons for optimism,” suggests David Tutton of the official French Open website. "The Spaniard's form in the earlier rounds was not as impressive, and should he slip back to those standards, [Murray] has a real chance.”
The other semi is the one everyone will be watching: No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic, who is currently on a 43-match winning streak, versus 16-time Grand Slam champ and No. 3 seed Roger Federer.
Even Nadal described this match as "The best player of the world today against the best player [in] history," so it’s fair to say it has the makings of a memorable one.
Here’s when, where and how you can see all of the action on TV from Friday’s lucky day 13 at Roland Garros.

With the completion of singles play on Wednesday, the semifinals are set for the 2011 French Open.
On the men’s side of things, Rafael Nadal straight-setted Robin Soderling 6-4, 6-1, 7-6 to advance to the semis, where he’ll face Andy Murray, who spanked Juan Ignacio Chela on Wednesday 7-6, 7-5, 6-2.
In the other semi, which was decided on Tuesday, will pit No. 2 Novak Djokovic—he of the 43-match winning streak—against No. 3 legendary Swiss master Roger Federer.
If you’re wondering—like I was—the men’s semifinal matches are scheduled to be played on Friday starting at 11 a.m. Paris time on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The women’s semis will see Maria Sharapova aim for her first French Open title (and a career Grand Slam) against Na Li of China and defending French Open champ Francesca Schiavone square off against young Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli.
These women’s semis will be played on Thursday at Roland Garros, starting, again, at 11 a.m. local time.

The action at Roland Garros continues on Wednesday with some fantastic French Open quarterfinal matches in both the men’s and women’s draws.
On the gentlemen’s side, No. 1 seed and defending champions Rafael Nadal takes aim at his sixth French Open semifinals appearance in seven years against fifth seed Robin Soderling. Around the same time, Andy Murray, fresh off his five-set win over young Serb Viktor Troicki, faces off against Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela.
On the ladies’ side of things, Maria Sharapova will face beautiful, talented, moonwalking German Andrea Petkovic in one of the day’s quarters, while No. 6 Na Li takes on No. 4 Victoria Azarenka in the other.
Between those matches and the women’s doubles semifinals, there should be plenty of tennis worth watching on Wednesday.
Here’s when, where and how you can see all of the action on TV from Wednesday’s Day 11 at Roland Garros.

Roger Federer, the 2009 French Open champion and longtime world No. 1 (yet current No. 3), headlines the action at Roland Garros on Friday. The Swiss master will tangle with Serb Janko Tipsarevic for the right to advance to the fourth round.
Also on the men’s side on Friday, we’ll see No. 2 Novak Djokovic aim to extend his current match win streak to 42 against 2009 U.S. Open champ Juan Martin Del Potro. Elsewhere, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga sets up against Stanislas Wawrinka, Frenchman Richard Gasquet faces Thomaz Bellucci and seventh seed David Ferrer goes up against Sergiy Stakhovsky.
Women’s top seed Caroline Wozniacki will also be on the court Friday, as she squares off against leggy Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.
Also, defending French Open champ Francesca Schiavone plays Shuai Peng, Marion Bartoli will have the home crowd behind her against German Julia Goerges and No. 3 seed Vera Zvonareva looks to bounce back from a horrible second-round performance against Anastasia Rodionova.
Anyway, here’s when, where and how you can see all of the action on TV from Friday’s Day 6 at Roland Garros.

By this point, you’re probably well aware that Maria Sharapova advanced to the third round of the French Open on Thursday with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory over Caroline Garcia.
You’re probably well aware that after going down a set and falling behind 4-1 in the second, the No. 7 seeded Sharapova bounced back to win the next 11 games of the match to finish off the 17-year-old Frenchwoman.
What you might be less aware of is this stunning piece of serving from the gorgeous Russian.
“In case you can't tell a forehand from a forehead,” Yahoo writes, “that ball was supposed to bounce inside the first line. It was about 22 feet longer than it should have been. The service area is only 21 feet deep in the first place!”
Yes, the weather at Roland Garros was pretty crummy today. There was a lot of wind, which could partially account for the distance by which Sharapova’s serve missed its mark.
But c’mon. This was outrageous.
“It wasn't even close to being inside the baseline, let alone the service line,” Yahoo continues. “Her serve was the tennis equivalent of a pitcher throwing into the ninth row, a basketball player shooting a free throw over the basket or Charles Barkley's golf swing. In short, it's one of the worst serves you'll ever see.”

After a busy Wednesday on the red clay of Roland Garros that saw big names like Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki and Novak Djokovic advance with relative ease, we look ahead to an equally busy Thursday featuring some equally significant names.
Kicking things off on Court Philippe Chatrier, women’s No. 2 Kim Clijsters will face off against Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands. That match will be followed by No. 4 seed Andy Murray vs. Simone Bolelli, Maria Sharapova vs. Caroline Garcia and, finally, Frenchman Gilles Simone vs. countryman Jeremy Chardy.
Men’s top seed Rafael Nadal will headline things on Court Suzanne Lenglen, where he’ll face fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar in the afternoon. Sandwiched around Rafa will be matches featuring two-time French Open finalist Robin Soderling, women’s No. 6 seed Na Li and No. 4 Victoria Azarenka.
Also in action Thursday will be hope Mardy Fish, who’ll be aiming to keep the American dream alive against Robin Haase.
Without further ado, here’s when and where you can see all of the action on TV from Thursday’s Day 5 at Roland Garros.

After witnessing probably the most exciting match of the first round on Tuesday between top men’s seed Rafael Nadal and American John Isner, Day 4 on Wednesday will have a lot to live up to.
Among the day’s highlights, we’ll see both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, the men’s No. 2 and 3 seeds in action against Victor Hanescu of Romania and Frenchman Maxime Teixeira, respectively.
On the women’s side, No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki will square off against—and no, I couldn’t make this up—Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada, who must be some variety of distant, distant cousin to the top seed. Defending French Open champ Francesca Schiavone will also take to the court against Vesna Dolonts of Russia.
Top 10 seeds Samantha Stosur, Gael Monfils, Jelena Jankovic and David Ferrer will also be in action, so be sure to check it all out on one of the television outlets below.

Day 2 of the 2011 French Open should be a dandy.
Monday’s biggest matches will take place on the Court Philippe Chatrier, where Melanie Oudin and defending French Open champ Francesca Schiavone will square off to start the day.
They’ll be followed on the court by No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic—he of the ridiculous win streak—opening up his tourney against Dutchman Thiemo De Bakker.
No. 3 seed Roger Federer takes to the court after Djokovic, where he’ll match up against tough Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
Also in action on a busy Monday will be Vera Zvonareva, Gael Monfils, women’s No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, Tomas Berdych and American Mardy Fish.
