2011 NBA Mock Draft Sends Athletic Swingman To Washington Wizards
With Jonas Valanciunas already added to the roster, the Wizards turn their attention to the perimeter. They get help on both ends of the floor by adding yet another long, lean wing player in Tyler Honeycutt.
Honeycutt starred at UCLA largely on raw athleticism. His 6’8” frame and impressive wingspan make him a fearsome defender, while his quickness and leaping ability allow him to get into the paint offensively and finish at the rim.
Honeycutt’s jump shot still needs plenty of work, and his technique in general needs to catch up to his raw talent. Still, he’ll be another weapon for Washington’s increasingly frightening transition game.
The young Wizards’ roster doesn’t provide many role models as Honeycutt tries to improve his fundamentals, but Josh Howard will be a valuable defensive mentor. If Honeycutt can develop a more balanced offensive game, he could take be starting in short order.
