Bernard Hopkins Wins: Will Jean Pascal Ever Be Great?
After Bernard Hopkins' win over Jean Pascal in their rematch on Saturday night, B-Hop assured everyone in Canada that Pascal will be great someday.
Does anyone really believe him though?
Bernard Hopkins didn't win and become the oldest title holder in boxing history because he was the stronger man, faster man or the most psychically gifted. The Executioner was able to beat Jean Pascal because he was the smarter man.
It is time for us to really start questioning Jean Pascal's mental toughness. As soon as he got hit with a great shot from B-Hop, he was thrown off of his game-plan and struggled to do anything great from that point forward.
A lot of things can be learned in the gym, however mental toughness isn't something fighters typically improve with training or experience. I'm not saying it can't happen, but it certainly isn't likely.
Pascal is an exciting fighter and I wish him nothing but the best in the future. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll ever reach an elite level unless he gets a new trainer and drastically changes some of his in-fight habits.
