Roy Jones Jr. Gets Knocked out by Denis Lebedev
I wasn't planning to cover the Roy Jones Jr. vs. Denis Lebedev fight much today. The plan all week has been to cover the heck out of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Jean Pascal fight tonight.
However, I'm not sure many people expected Jones Jr. to get completely dominated like he did against Lebedev when the two fought in Russia today. In his prime, an argument can be made for Jones Jr. to be considered as the greatest boxer of his era. Unfortunately, the last few years have been rough for him.
In his last three fights he has been completely dominated. Danny Green knocked him out in round 1 of their 2009 fight. Bernard Hopkins easily won a unanimous decision over him last year and today Lebedev may have ended his career by winning via 10th round TKO over the future hall of famer.
Lebedev is an above average fighter who was expected to win, but make no mistake about it. Roy Jones Jr. would have torn him to shreds if he was in his prime. Anybody Marco Huck can beat, a prime Jones Jr. could have destroyed.
I hope Roy Jones goes back to color commentating fights and never returns to the ring again. His days inside the ring are clearly over. Let's just remember him for how great he once was.
