About a month ago I found myself curious to know which teams the University of Tennessee was scheduled to play over the next few years.  I did some research and discovered that many major college football programs have scheduled marquee out-of-conference games.

On the surface, this fact comes as no surprise.  However, I think you will find it interesting that some schools have scheduled these games as far as 13 years in advance!

At present, the year 2013 will showcase seven contests involving current BCS powers, and the year 2015 will have no less than five major games.

It should be noted that you cannot view an entire slate of 12 games for your favorite team in the year 2017.  However, if you know how your team’s conference schedule rotates (if applicable) then you can determine at least 75% of the 12 games that will be played in the foreseeable future.

Below, I’ve provided a list of several teams that have very compelling games scheduled over the next 13 years.  LSU and North Carolina State have scheduled a game in the year 2020, holding the distinction of being the most advanced scheduled game among Division 1 schools.

I selected several teams from the BCS conferences and listed the most intriguing games.  As you will note, should the status quo persist, some true gems that await us.  I’ll have to give Oklahoma, UCLA, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Oregon the nod for scheduling the most interesting and potentially difficult teams for the future.

  1. Alabama has Georgia Tech on their schedule in 2012 and 2013. The dates may be off, but there is a home and home with the Yellow Jackets on the docket for the future.

  2. nice article! thanks for writing this up. i gotta give the nod to tennessee here... as a cal guy myself, i enjoy how the vol's are always willing to step up and schedule challenging games that are interesting to watch

  3. OSU also has scheduled Oklahoma for '16 and '17

  4. Also USC has Virginia in 2008 as part of there home and home (2010) series. They try to rotate conferences. like they had both arkansas and auburn home and home, played va tech, nebraska home and home with pac 10 requiring all to play each other, 5 home and 4 away and reverse following year, they also play notre dame every year so only have chance for two other games. Anyway notre dame and usc only cross country rivalry, notre dame will get better again I suppose. But they try play 6 home and 6 on road most years, dont see them playhing 7 or 8 home games, although when ucla is road game thats real close... still would be interesting if larger conferences would require teams to play 9 instead of only 8 out of possible 11 teams, just a thought.

  5. With ASU/ND now scheduled for Dallas in 2013, what happens to the home and home that were scheduled for 2013 and 2014
