Maya Moore Has Become the First Woman To Sign with the Jordan Brand

Maya Moore is one of the biggest women's basketball stars in recent memory.

Even if you're not the biggest fan of the women's game, you know Moore's name and you know all about her success at UConn.

Moore was the first pick of the WNBA draft and now that she's a pro, she signed a fancy new endorsement deal with the Jordan brand, the first woman to sign such a contract with the sneaker company.

Per the Hartford Courant:

"I am thrilled to welcome Maya Moore into the Jordan Brand," Michael Jordan was quoted in the release on EON. "Not only has Maya proven to be a prolific winner on the court, but her hunger and determination to make an impact off the court makes her a valuable addition to the Jordan family. We look forward to working with Maya as she carries her success to the next level."

Like it or not, Nike and the Jordan brand are the two biggest names in basketball in terms of sneakers and equipment and Moore's signing with the company is no small feat. It's something that can change the face of women's basketball as we go forward.

Moore is a legend in the women's game and now she's set a precedent for future stars like Skylar Diggins, who are now in a position where they can get their own endorsement deals once their college days are over.

It's hard to say that Moore didn't deserve this type of accolade because she was a giant in women's basketball and did so much to help make herself and the sport such a mainstream topic of discussion in sports circles.

It will be interesting to see what the Jordan brand does in terms of marketing her going forward.
