Pleading to Fellow Big 12 Fans: Spread Your Journalistic Seed Around B/R!

As I look around Bleacher Report, I can't help but notice the Big 12 section of the site to be a bit lacking. So, here, in this article, I will formally petition to you all to get your writing out into the community!

I am tired of hearing all of the "Which Conference Is Better: SEC Or Big 12?" discussions, but it would seem, from the amount of work displayed on this site that the SEC holds a commanding lead.

The Big 12 is the most exciting conference in the nation, yet it seems that 96 percent of the articles coming out with a Big 12 tag on them are nothing more than game recaps sharing no new information.

I know that there is potential in all of you, to release interesting, original, thought-provoking work that flexes not only your journalistic muscle, but also your creativity.

I, for one, am always looking for a nice mix of information and humor in articles, and it seems more and more these days, that repeated facts are all that is being posted...

Don't get me wrong, that is fundamental in the beginning, but after a while, it is necessary to take a risk, and put some work out there that is different than the norm.

Originality is not your enemy, it is your companion that you can harness to lead yourself to a Senior Writer ranking. The longer that you wait to take that first step, the longer you'll be unsure of your talent and potential.

All I ask is that the next time you sit down to write an article, compose your thoughts, and think of an idea that you'd love to see written. Because, most likely, when it comes down to it, unless you take the first step and write that certain article, you will never see it come to fruition.

Game recaps, and consensus lists are fine, but the next time you even put one of those together, make sure to add a signature style to your writing. After all, how else will you be able to differentiate yourself from the general public if your work is a near-carbon copy of theirs?

Admit it, you would love to see an influx of new articles based not on the standard, but on their own set of rules, as much as the next sports fanatic, so why don't you get it started?

Everybody wants to be a leader anyway, and I am sure, that with the right steps being taken, there will be plenty of followers, plenty of writers taking your lead and running with it.

Because, face it, that's the only running us Big 12 fans will see for a while.

I'll even start it off, and give you a couple of ideas to toss around and help you come up with your own.

  • Rank the Big 12 teams, based on their appeal to fans, using your own ideas to build your list.
  • Is Colt McCoy's name really Colt? Or is it some man-made hoax to make us love him even more?
  • What would happen if Texas Tech played in the SEC? Former Tech QB Chris Todd had a very rude welcome, would Graham Harrell face the same fate?
  • Research all of the teams from the Big 12, in the last decade. Which team has been the most consistent, and who is the surprise bottom feeder?
  • Shoot, I would read any article published, relating to the Big 12 as long as it were original content.
  • Which Big 12 quarterback has the best hair?
  • More Big 12 Power Rankings. Everybody has an opinion, why are you afraid to put it out there?
There are plenty more ideas out there, as those are only basic topics to put your mind into motion. You all want something better to read, something to make this community one-of-a-kind, so let's get the movement started!
Here's to a (hopefully) surge in original articles, I'm really looking forward to seeing the " Consensus Best Hair"... Oh em gee, does anybody know what Colt uses? It's like a blond cloud of quarterback efficiency on his head!
