Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tiger Woods may have more in common than just the fact that they're world class athletes.
When news of Tiger Woods and his extra-marital affairs came out our initial reaction was, of course, shock.
I mean this is a guy without so much as a parking ticket who suddenly is accused of cheating with dozens of strippers and porn stars?
It didn't quite compute.
The same reaction occurred when we found out about the alleged affairs of former California Governor and Mr. Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is divorcing his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver.
But as we found out that both sets of rumors were true, our view of the heroes changed dramatically.
Take a closer look at Tiger Woods and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and you'll see they may have more in common than we thought.
Tiger and Arnold both cheated on women who, by all accounts, are great people.
Elin Nordegren was a model who also worked as a nanny for the children of some of the players on tour, which is actually how she was introduced to Woods.
Maria Shriver is a member of the Kennedy family who was a television anchor and the writer of six best-selling books. In 2009 she won the Shinnyo-en Foundation’s 2009 Pathfinders to Peace Award, which is bestowed annually to a person who exemplifies the ideals of compassion, harmony and peace.
Before the mess, Tiger Woods was easily the best golfer in the world and in the running for the best of all time. He has won 97 PGA tournaments, including 14 Majors, but it remains to be seen whether he'll ever win another one.
Arnold Schwarzenegger won the world's most prestigious bodybuilding competition, Mr. Olympia, a record seven times in his younger days when he used to look like this.
Both Arnie and Tiger were at the top of their sport at one point.
What started as a car accident turned into a maelstrom of infidelity accusations for Tiger Woods in November of 2009. Soon after the accident several women, including Rachel Uchitel and Jamie Jungers, came out with claims that they had extended affairs with Woods.
Arnold's infidelity came out in a similar fashion, first with news that he and Maria Shriver would divorce. It was only a matter of time before reports of cheating came out, and they began to fly soon afterwards.
Tiger had one of the most elaborate public apologies in sports history, scheduling a press conference which was more like a Shakespearian soliloquy. In it he admitted that he had done wrong, but never really got into the specifics.
Arnold on the other hand came clean, stating that he had an affair with a government employee.
Of course Arnold's story differs in that he actually fathered a child with his mistress as well. Tiger didn't have any kids with his "other women"...at least not that we know of...
Neither star's wife gave any consideration to "working things out" once the news of infidelity broke. Tiger's wife Elin filed for divorce immediately while Arnold's wife Maria Shriver had already filed for divorce when the allegations came out.
A lot of female athletes' stars decide to stay with them even after they've cheated, but it's definitely different with these two mega stars.
Tiger has yet to win a tournament since his infidelity-forced "break" from the game of golf. He's been doing better recently, but it remains to be seen whether he'll ever be able to reclaim his spot among the great golfers of all time.
While Arnold was already done with his term by the time he divorced, it has certainly ruined any chances of him running for political office in the future. It may even hurt the box office of a potential Terminator 4 movie.
