Can Kyrie Irving fill the shoes of LeBron James in Cleveland? Probably not, but if the Cavs select the Duke point guard first overall he’ll be held to a similar standard that is always associated with top picks.
Unlike LeBron, who Cleveland saw as the savior to their failing franchise, Irving would be a part of a dynamic duo, along with whomever the Cavs select at No. 4, so that would lessen his need to be solely in charge of returning the team to the playoffs.
Still, it’s a role that Irving will have to captain and be willing to take on, because Cleveland is in need of leadership. LeBron carried the team on his shoulders for so many years, so a large part of them drafting Irving will depend on how much killer instinct he displays, and if he can lead the Cavs into battle.
