2011 NBA Draft Lottery: Top Pick a Fitting End to a Long Year for the Cavaliers
The 2011 NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night will settle the draft order and make 2011 NBA Mock Drafts a lot easier to predict. Will your team get the coveted No. 1 pick and take Kyrie Irving? What are the chances for each team and can they buck the odds? Bleacher Report has the latest buzz on the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery, including pre-lottery predictions and post-lottery analysis.
This time last year, Cleveland was embracing for the inevitable gut-punch that was LeBron James' decision to head to Miami. Since then, the Cavaliers have found themselves mired in a historically-long losing streak and getting blown out on a nightly basis.
Now, the Cavaliers own the first and the fourth picks in the NBA draft. That's not bad for a franchise that was used to competing in the Eastern Conference playoffs on a yearly basis. The lottery gods smiled down on one of the most downtrodden sports towns in America and gave those fans a reason to believe.
Despite plenty of teams losing out on a shot at the top pick in the draft, it's hard to feel bad after seeing the Cavaliers celebrate something for the first time in a long time. Regardless how you feel about the Cavaliers, it's good to see something nice happen to a franchise that had its heart taken away last summer.
Obviously, Kyrie Irving becomes the top option for a franchise without a real point guard, but it will be interesting to see if Derrick Williams becomes a favorite within the position. Regardless of their draft board, the Cavaliers have a chance to really build for the future.
