2011 NBA Draft Lottery: What Does Thin Draft Class Mean for Lottery Teams?
The 2011 NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night will settle the draft order and make 2011 NBA Mock Drafts a lot easier to predict. Will your team get the coveted No. 1 pick and take Kyrie Irving? What are the chances for each team and can they buck the odds? Bleacher Report has the latest buzz on the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery, including pre-lottery predictions and post-lottery analysis.
When you look at the draft class for this year, you better hop that you end up with one of the top picks in this years draft.
If you don't, it's going to be slim pickings in terms of finding someone who can step in from day one and be an impact player. You have a guys like Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter and then...no one. If you're taking outside of the top three picks, you're picking someone who's going to be a project.
When you have to take the time to develop players at the next level, it slows the rebuilding process and almost helps guarantee that you'll be back in the lottery for the next couple of years. If you're a team like Detroit, you need a player who can provide a spark and gel with a roster which has the talent to be a better group.
However, the odds are that the Pistons will end up with a guy that can't really provide much and you'll have to be patient with. That's time that Pistons fans and Joe Dumars don't have.
It will be interesting to see how it shakes out once we get out of this summer's top picks. It's going to be a wild ride, that's for sure.
