The 2011 NBA draft lottery order will determine the fate of most of the teams that didn't make it into this year's playoffs. And though there isn't necessarily a Blake Griffin or a Derrick Rose in this year's crop of players, there is enough talent to help a team on the cusp break through and become a "have" as opposed to staying among the "have nots."
Before all lottery balls get dropped however, the league had some housekeeping to take care of. NBA.com reported that the NBA took care of three tie breakers that would affect the overall draft order as well as the lottery order.
Three ties among teams that finished the 2010-11 NBA regular season with identical records were broken...through random drawings to help determine the order of selection for the 2011 NBA Draft...
The results of the drawings:
• Sacramento (24-58) won a tiebreaker with New Jersey.
• New Orleans (46-36) won a tiebreaker with Memphis.
• Dallas (57-25) won a tiebreaker with the Los Angeles Lakers.
By winning the drawing, Sacramento goes from having a 7.5 percent chance of winning the first pick if they lost, to now having 7.6 percent chance. But as we know, every little bit helps.
