2011 NBA Mock Draft: Comparing Expert Opinions, Mavericks Add Davis Bertans
2011 NBA Mock Draft Sees Mavericks Go With International Pick
It's probably not the right time to assume that Dirk Nowitzki is getting too old but it's never too late to add young talent who scouts think has a very similar game than the future Hall of Famer.
Bertans is that young talent that could ultimately develop into a stud given the right situation.
Although he's a few years away, he could be a very intriguing option to stash overseas with the uncertainty regarding next year's season. Bertans impressed scouts with his feel for the game and desire on top of his tremendous shooting ability at the 2011 Hoop Summit.
Clearly, he's not a guy that can contribute right away. But the loaded Mavericks squad aren't really looking for an 18-year-old to slide right and help. He's a long-term project that's worth the risk.
It's unfair to compare any young European player to Dirk Nowitzki. But after watching Bertans shoot the lights out in the practices at the Nike Hoop Summit, that's how some scouts were referring to him. Bertans doesn't have Nowitzki's size or strength and looks to be a pretty serious project. But long term, he could be a really nice addition for the Mavs.
If his game continues to improve, then he's worth bringing over from to the States. if not, then the Mavs can just let him stay overseas for an indefinite period of time.
My pick: Davis Bertans
Age: 200 lbs
