NBA Trade Rumors: Is a Chris Kaman Trade Vital to the Clippers' Success?
NBA Trade Rumors Swirl as Chris Kaman's Name Comes Up
It's no secret that Chris Kaman isn't the centerpiece of the Los Angeles Clippers anymore.
Those days are long gone now that Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon have emerged as the franchise players in Los Angeles. And now that age and injuries have made Kaman an expendable commodity, it looks like he could be heading elsewhere.
There have been whispers about him and Philadelphia in a deal that would send Andre Iguodala to the Clippers, and the truth is that anything Los Angeles gets back will be a bonus, because with Griffin and DeAndre Jordan (if he re-signs) forming a young frontcourt, getting depth at other positions, especially the wing, would be a great upgrade for a franchise that hopes to be on the rise.
Iguodala would be a natural fit in the Clippers because he's much more comfortable being the second fiddle and playing off of other stars than being the man, as we've seen during his time with Team USA and previous seasons with the Sixers.
This is a youth movement in Los Angeles, and even though Kaman still has plenty of basketball left, what we've seen from the Clippers in his absence is enough to make me believe that this team is better off getting assets it can use as opposed to keeping their big man around for no real reason other than loyalty.
Loyalty can get you fired as an executive, and the Clippers need to pull the trigger on a move this offseason, combined with the re-signing of DeAndre Jordan, if they want to continue improving in the Western Conference.
