Rich Hill Picks Up Win, Boosts Trade Value

Rich Hill made his debut in Venezuela Friday night in Maracay. Rich threw 5.1 innings to get the decision in Aragua's first win of the 2008/2009 season. Hill didn't walk any batters, and struck out six, allowing two earned on four hits.

Sam Fuld made his third start in center and leading off. Fuld finished the night one for three with a walk and a run scored.

Cubs minor leaguer Justin Berg came into a tight situation in the eight inning, with los Tigres holding a two-run lead. Inheriting runners on the corners with no outs, Berg got a double play ball (which plated a runner) and got the put-out on Edgardo Alfonzo's pop-up to finish the inning. Berg also got the first out of the ninth.

Hill's strong outing is something to build upon.  If he increases his value, he can be shopped to countless teams.  A lefty with great season on his resume, who makes close to minimum, would fit well in a lot of places.  Possibly with the Cubs.

Plenty of other Cubs in action tonight, including Josh Kroeger, who homered for Caracas. Updates posted regularly at the Winter Cubs post.
