Chipper Jones: A True Atlanta Brave

Andrew Kushner by Contributor Written on January 19, 2008

I'm a Dodger fan, so it's hard for me to see greatness in other teams' players.

But it's time we all give Chipper Jones the respect he is due.

If you compare his numbers to the all-time greats such as the Mick, he's right up there with them. He's a definite first ballot Hall of Fame—and in my opinion one of, if not the greatest players I've watched in my life.

Jones is a career .307 hitter, and put together eight consecutive seasons with 100+ RBI's. His OBP. of .403 astounds me and has me wondering why his name isn't constantly mentioned with the greats.

One of the few modern players to stay with his team throughout his career, Chip has dabbled at three different positions (3B, OF, and a little SS) and has flourished wherever he plays—not to mention, his name doesn't appear in the Mitchell Report.

If I was an Atlanta fan, I couldn't be more pleased to have an individual on my team such as Larry Wayne Jones, Jr. With the young talent pool flowing into to the Braves organization, I'm sure a bit of Chipper's greatness will rub off on the youth, and Atlanta could be in for some great baseball in the future.
