NBA Season Preview: Who Will Win the Major Awards?
Like every year, I am getting really pumped for basketball season. There isn't a game with as many variables or "what ifs" in the world. This year promises to be an interesting one with all the reshaping teams have done (Houston, Cleveland, Phoenix).
Here are just a few predictions I have for this upcoming season:
MVP: Chris Paul, Hornets
I think he deserved it last year and will be coming out firing when the season begins. Paul is the best point guard in the league right now, and I look for him to widen that gap even more this season.
Rookie of the Year: Greg Oden, Trail Blazers
Oden is a beast, and after watching his summer league and preseason games, there is no doubt in my mind about his productivity for years to come.
Sixth Man: Lou Williams, 76ers
Look for Williams to get solid minutes behind Andre Miller. The Sixers have a stout frontcourt, which will make room for Williams to isolate and then feed the ball to the open man.
Defensive Player of the Year: Ron Artest, Rockets
I project Artest to come into the season rejuvenated and thrilled to play for a contender for once in his career. If Artest can stay healthy, he will be in contention for this award.
Coach of the Year: Rick Adelman, Rockets
This award always goes to the coach of a team that drastically improves. If the Rockets stay healthy and live up to the hype of their season, Adelman will get talked about.
